basement_crossfade is a very simple mac plugin designed for use in Ableton Live.

It accepts two audio inputs, and a single crossfade control determines the mix sent to its output.

Hope it's useful for someone besides me!

thanks for this. i can definitely find a few uses for it.

(btw: i think this download won't work for windows machines. But if a windows user who has max/msp re-exports the patch as a plugin, it will result in a win compatible version, i think!)

how snappy is this thing

FUCKING ABLETON GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER

this is the one thing that keeps the program from kicking protools' ass as a sound design program

yes: forehead slapping moment #240: live 7 (goddam version 7!!) doesn't support proper audio clip crossfades.

great plugin. I'll be using this when i go over to mac completely. i also enjoy any chance to listen to your manly voice.

bummer no pc version tho!

so how does this bad boy do in the <10 ms range?

here's the test-make a big bass, with lots of shitty dc offset. or maybe just do some dc offset, to where you can hear a click (dont destroy your speakers, tho)

make a 10 ms crossfade to silence using the plugz. did it soften the click? by how much?

iDunno, i made it with slower fades in mind. do you have a specific use that you're thinking of? like a clickless signal router? (what do you what to do with that?)
so, what am i missing here? why can't you just do crossfades with envelopes on two tracks?

because workarounds suck. i need things spelt out for me. *P

You can, but you'll get a big level dip in the middle of the fade if you draw straight automation lines (demonstrated in the vid). this crossfader uses a equal powerish formula.

how exactly would i go about doing this?

The procedure will be something like this (though not 100% sure because i haven't used max on a pc).

link dload and unzip this. Open it in max.

In the file menu (i think) choose the 'build collective' option. You'll get a window with some extra options, i don't think you'll need to change anything there, click the 'build' button. In the following window select 'vst' as the file type, and choose a place on your hd to export it to.

wow awesome. thanks cbit.

for some reason, it wont let me render it as a vst or anything. don't know why, really.
