--> Ive just finished watching this documentary about how Blair and his new labour cronies have dismantled every civil liberty that has been hard fought for in the UK, in just under 10 years.

Take the time out to watch it:

same thing is happening (slowly but surely) in new zealand by 'both' of the political parties

seems to be happening worldwide (in 'western countries' that is)

drink coke, buy nike, watch telly, ignite

yes!

living in the future IS awesome!

thank you.

cheers for posting this, chris.

1/2 way through. I was a bit put off at first by the 'humorous' parts, but despite that this very good documentary.

The parallels between the events leading to the Nazi's consolidation of power and what is happening in the UK now can't be stressed strongly enough. People need to understand what the fuss is about and why it matters.

Thanks for posting.

interesting,
i think it's really important to point out the cutting back of personal and democratic rights, but in opposition to cbit think the comparison to nazi-germany is a little too stressed, as there are lots of totally different things also important to understand national-socialism.
though it doesn't remove the need to point out, that britain is on its way to get more and more totalitarian.

comparisons to nazi germany are usually always too stressed and in poor taste.
Britain has been flirting with totalitarianism for centuries.

Good video, but I have to laugh when i see elderly middle england types getting flustered at this sudden new erosion of civil liberties...
It was only last centuary the British Army were sent into Glasgow to stop people campaigning for better working conditions.

in regards to the attitude of the state on public demonstration, not a great deal has changed.

I can appreciate what you all say about the comparisons with nazi Germany but consider that the documentary isnt made for those of us who are already aware of this stuff. Its meant for people who are like the 'frogs in the pan of boiling water', who havent noticed the erosion over the last 10 years so the comparison is the docu-makers saying, 'this is what's been happening and we know where this road eventually can lead to'. Historically, people will not be as aware of the oppression that went on throughout other regimes.

For me, this is one of the most sober docus about civil liberties being stripped and it doesnt stray into 'conspiracy theory' territory. Its presented in a very digestible way, with each example laid out so that the everyday layman can see how the process has occurred.

Around that time, there was also a naval strike and several sailors were tried and convicted of mutiny and a few faced the death penalty. Looking at documents, there was a general feeling that things had to change and people started to rise up.

A piece about police strikes at the time: link

There are parallels between what's happening in the UK and what happened in Nazi germany. That's not something that's up for debate as far as i'm concerned.

@yghrt: Yes for sure, there are many differences.

@elronhubbard: It's a shame that the mere mention of Nazism seems to offend your delicate sensibilities. "Never Again"--we're not going to be able to enforce that if we're unwilling to make comparisons of this sort.

I'm less disturbed by the comedic moments as by the sad music. There is no need for that. The facts are sad enough. Anyway, I think this is a great documentary, thanks for the link.

Really awesome animation design too.

I'll be honest here- I always wondered why it seemed like so few people in the UK cared about what a high tech surveillance state the country had turned into. I can remember reading that your police didn't even carry guns until recently...
Children of Men comes to mind. If you've not seen it yet, you should. If you know much about the current plight of the UK, the movie makes a lot of sense. Plus, another major similarity is that one or two of the characters are liberals with doody braids- just like zanf.
