--> nothing interesting happens to me so i haven't logged anything here yet
but today at an intersection i was almost hit by a blur of 3 cars
because |street light off| = go!

on my way to my part-time job, the lunch hour
it has been raining all morning, the streets are glass and the ditches are brimming
i'm listening to autechre and pretending i relate to it
arrive at an intersection
red, green, go
--> 50mph car
i brake and drop jaw

i'm stuck in the intersection
my light is green
--> 50mph car
the crossing street's lights have gone out
my light is yellow
--> 50mph car
they do not yield but swerve

my light turns red
i look around
-
breathe
-
i run the red light
and i'm off to work

my whole day will be a lot more quiet

yeah. drivers. wow.

i started driving a lot more recently (bought our first car - bit of a mixed blessing) and am blown away by people's bad driving. my personal pet-peeve is turning left at lights and when it turns amber you're waiting and wiating in the intersection and you can't turn until about 3 people run the amber and then the red light and then you can go just as the lights turning green for the other traffic.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

off to work? i'd be going back to the house to change my shorts.

holy crap.
I am flipping the driver off for you right now.

actually, i'm not one to talk. i'm a pretty shitty driver.

ran a red light a couple weeks ago. my wife nearly shit her pants. i get easily stressed out and make mistakes.

as jdg said once, i'm a dummy.

im the worst driver.
its fun for the passengers for sure.

same pet-peve. the last turn I have to make into my apartment is a left turn..this happens to me daily after dealing with 5:30 traffic jams.

I don't know whether or not I'm a bad driver, I always took that to mean I'm probably horrible.

it is completely legal (at least in washington state) to be in the intersection waiting to turn left when the light is red.

if u were in the intersection before it turned red, u are legal.

i know this, cuz i am a bad driver... i've been forced to goto traffic school. its awesome.
wanna race?

yeah, I thought it was probably legal...It's just I hate waiting for people when I'm on the other side waiting for the green light so I get mad when I'm the one they're waiting on.
yeah, i'm at the point now where if someone guns it to rush an amber or red light while i'm waiting ot turn left i wail on the horn. i usually get the most incredulous looks, like they've done nothing wrong.

everyone else just tells me that its a reality of toronto driving.

i need to get out of the city and live on the rural compound. build a high fence.

In my opinion,rural driving is often worse because drivers not in the city, though oftentimes a little more considerate, just don't have the experience of ever sharing the road with that many drivers.

adjective: welcome btw! i like your writing.

you nailed it. in my small town they built a city bypass in the past few years. it was crazy to see the amount of accidents and enar accidents all the time as people tried to merge, etc. it would almost be funny if not for the whole twisted metal and bloody carnage thing.

rural drivers in the southern US are some of the worst around. there might be less of them, but they make up for their lack of numbers by driving larger and louder vehicles. mostly jacked up 4x4's that seem to have a passion for tailgaiting and trying to run small cars off the road. and flipping them off won't do anything. they have guns in their trucks. rifles. with scopes. mounted on the back windshield.

i actually usually have a safer driving experience in atlanta than in the country.

Oregon drivers are famously averse to using turn signals. Or is it everywhere?

It's a little...lever...it's not too hard to push up or down and let people behind you know if you suddenly decide to turn left.

in los angeles that's the only way you can make a left hand turn, because there are virtually no protected left turn lights there.

nice read.
good to hear it was just shocking and not anything worse.

i'm pretty bad at driving.
ask them glasgownians about that. they can tell.
