my MBP should be here by friday. i'll let you know then.
until then, fix all the lame ass bugs in logic and don't charge 25bux for the update. kthx

i've heard good things about the new macbooks, but like any piece of technology, there needs to be time allowed to work out the bugs.

i am waiting to hear how jdg does before buying one. ;)

the MBP's are already on the 4th revision. A couple of firmware updates have sorted most of the known probs with strange noises and heat issue's.

i got one last week. it's great except that I now play windows games all the time. damn!

the current revisions still make the strange noises when you run under OSX on battery. it's the same strange noise my powerbook rev c has been making when using Dreamweaver and some other apps for years.

is it a kinda of high picthed squeak? not the normal fan/hd whurrr.

yes. fluctuating with processor load. on my old Powerbook it could happen with the power plugged in, would vary pitch when moving the mouse or trackpad, with network activity etc. on the macbook pro it's a little more even and monotonous. the issue's been all over various forums, the curious thing is that it only happens under OSX, not Windows XP - so hopefully there's an easy fix for it in an OSX or firmware update sometime soon.

emmm will try and find out more... firmware updates it sorted mine though. strange...
are these firmware updates avial for those with first rev MBs and MBPs?

i know that sound.. i had it with my 17inch G4 powerbook... u know where u'd enable or disable (i forget) the nap settings with CHUD and it fixed it.

no, they had some other issues altogether it seems.. people have been getting Apple to replace their logic boards and such with success though.

there's some voodoo about the serial number of the mbp in question, because they denote the calendarweek in which it was made.. anything week 20 or up should be safe presumably. despite that issue the mbp i have has been very nice so far. some wierdness with the Bootcamp beta and WinXP from time to time but nothing serious. the OSX part works like you'd expect it to. there just really aren't many plugins out as UB yet, but apart from that I'm running with Live 5.2 and Logic and it's all good.

yea they should be. just run software update... it should pick em up.

if not download it.. Please make sure you follow all directions..

not to sure haven't had had first hand experience... wouldn't like to say.. sorry

if it mess's up you always have this on your side ( link ) Firmware Restoration CD
