--> So I discovered something amazing today..

I am better able to focus on something in a 4:3 ratio rather than widescreen (whatever that ratio is I cant remember. . 5:9?)

I didn't really make music before I got widescreen . .which explains why I have never noticed since then.

I was messing with live trying to make the window smaller to get msn to fit beside it and bam . . . . I just thought. . hey. . this actually looks OK. . .

Somehow it removed the spell of not being able to focus on what I'm doing..

I have a number of hypotheses as to why:

1) I spent my childhood/90% of my life so far in front of 4:3 screens (mega nerd), my brain has somehow developed better able to deal with information in 4:3 format

2) Everyone is better suited to working in 4:3 format, because although widescreen fills the entire vision, our detailed vision is actually very narrow, and the 'wide' bits of widescreen, sit outside our main focus field which forces us to move our eyes around more. The 'wide' bits are better for games and movies, because we can still detect movement etc in them. . . but for staring at a complex GUI, not so useful.

3) Being able to see the edges of my desktop wallpaper makes the DAW environment less boring

4) I'm just a retard

haha, 2) sounds like it makes sense

what do you need MSN for, are you chatting while you produce? isn't that more distracting than the widescreen itself?

i've never had a widescreen, but i'd like to get an extra monitor to give to Reason's sequencer

im an internet junky

widescreen is negotiable,
constant contact via msn is not

in response to no. 2: writen word, if the page is too wide, is harder to follow from line to line; you will notice for instance, that news paper articles rarely take the entire width of the page, and if they do they are on the front page with a picture taking up a good portion of the width. i do like working in a duel-head format when i am working in my daw of choice (ardour) having the tracks in the right monitor and the mixer in the left.

3 for the win!

its a 2 line lcd for me

MSN whats that ?

Yeah, I like 4:3 too for smaller monitors. But when using a 24" 1900x1200 widescreen, the distinction becomes irrelevant.
