tenori on disapointing

--> yeah. the title say all.

i was in a big electronic festival in Lyon, and there was a tenori-on.

so i got my fingers on it, and i was quite disapointed: it's small, too small, and it also looks really cheap, all in plastic.

even if the leds blinking are nice to watch, it looks more like a child toy than a revolutionnary musical instrument !

the sound is weak, and i was bored after 3 minutes of playing with it.

this confirms what i was thinking: monome with max/msp or pd is surely better than that expensive piece of gear.

it's my opinion only for sure.

LOL

srsly though ever since I laid eyes on that thing...well that's not true I thought it was really pretty the first time I saw a video of a prototype being used in a dark room with those melancholy grey lights. but yeah I'm not real surprised and I'm sure it's not just yer opinion. there will always be suckers that will buy up shit just because it's flashy and shiny and new or maybe they want some kind of hip status symbol, and on a less condescending note some people will sincerely enjoy it. probably the majority, though.

ahem, probably NOT the majority.

i guess it's actually aluminum but whatever they sprayed it with makes it feel plasticy...

p.s. i love my monome!
I've had a play on one in phonica records (soho), I didn't spend much time with it but it just doesnt seem really do it for me. The monome looks like a dream I just wish I could afford one!

these guys love it:

this video is pretty interesting though... maybe if it came w/a modular we'd all be happy.

bunch of videos (obviously a marketing campaign) of musicians playing the tenori

i don't see any reason why it should be less versatile than a monome. smaller keys...

tenori on is disappointing. If the price was 100 - 200 bucks, then it would really make sense.

I think if they would have focused on it being used as a hardware sequencer it would be a lot better. The goofy electroplankton sounds and half-assed sampling just disappoints no matter how you look at it. Make the fucker out of steel, give it a couple midi outs and maybe even cv and adapt the Monomachine's sequencer to it and it could be worth the cash.

link apparently it does have midi in and out. the full spec is available here, link it's not exactly easy to follow. i'm not sure if it's possible to turn on and off each light, which is *all* you'd need for full monome functionality
