I've done exactly what I did last time I got into audio programming...Start with trying pd, get annoyed. Use Max/msp, try other peoples patches but get frustrated with the sound quality. Pick up supercollider, make my head explode...
I do love supercollider, I prefer the workflow and if I'm honest I prefer the idea of coding behind a laptop live ( not that's have to do that most of the time ) it gives me a geeky cool shiver down my spine.
Is there anyone on em411 that actively uses supercollider/psycollider ( I'm using this on my laptop )?

That tool looks very interesting, shame my mac is dying and I have to use psycollider on my laptop. I wonder if he will ever port it?

I'm going to learn it over the course of this (academic) year starting this summer. There are some experts here at Concordia and I'm taking back to back sound classes with one of them next year ;)

i used to use it. it's fun because it's programming and not visual. uses a different part of the brain. my best advice is to write dave cottle and get his sc3 tutorial. it's magnificent.

I use supercollider 2.0 for sound art interactive installations and generative music, The supercollider platform allows you to do anything to with sound and is great, infact I do nearly everything sound wise on it, having used it and written programs over the last 7 years, I am considering learning pd to keep with the times. Recently I have used supercollider to write it's own ambient music album, the only human processing was a delay vst and some minor editing, yet each track is unique, here's a track example link
