i'm getting a lot of feedback from the journalists here about the stfu festival. i had a big mailing activity with a press kit and stuff sent to the important persons here in Marseille.
all this makes me thinking about starting an organisation in ... say september, to organise various events and be my own boss.
i've always been interested in contemporary art, and used to work in a big art center, but now i want to organise events mixing exhibition, videos and music.
i'm starting to have a consequent experience in event planning now and i kinda feel making a living of it seems actually possible, even if it's a bit tough.
plus i have a cool gig at the end of june, and i'm really excited about this one:
i'm invited by an art organisation to do a performance in a gallery with a "chef" with main subject: a photography.
yes: a Chef, a cook, and I have to express what kind of feelings the picture awakes in us. me in music, him by cooking something.
it's a pretty fine project and it's refreshing after years and years of deejaying and boombastic techno, trying to discuss about music with bar managers who are just thinking about money and selling alcohol.
for this performance i plan to buy max/msp (but i have to move the buy date every week, because of taxback waiting to arrive on my bank account) and building a massive patch with 4 or 5 buffer sampling microphones placed in the gallery, and making beats with those small bits of sound, and after a while maybe starting to send beats done by me with kitchen and cutlery sounds.
that blog isn't really interesting... but it's just about the cool gigs, where you can actually do what you REALLY desire, musically talking, and i'm sure you had some of those ones.
do you have a story to tell ?

sounds great! cool stuff.
i have been my own boss since leaving uni in 1999. sometimes it's kinda like having loads of bosses really but it is also very very cool on other levels. i get to express myself creatively more than most, that's for sure! just don't expect some world where you can go on holiday when you like for as long as you like, or stay in bed all day...that aint the real world of working for yourself, from my experience. on balance though, it rocks!! i wouldn't change it...that's for sure.
good luck with the gigs and with the business, if you go for it...

event organising is one of the most satisfying things you can do i think.

You'll have to learn to kiss your own arse for a raise!
I have been self-employed for years now. It does take some self-discipline, but it's worth it in the long run.

I am just venturing into the world of a two man business. Its all about your network is all i can say...I'm still in Uni so no reall hurry. A nice first jobwe got is the sounddesign of a Game, so thats pretty cool. Also were just getting into organising events in vennues we used to go see people like Amon Tobin to Zorn. Really nice to actually get those things on the road.
Any tips on presenting ourselves on our new website is hugely appreciated link I am just getting into PHP so ...
