Warts and all, here is an mp3 of my live set: link (Or you can listen to it live here: link ).

Playing live is quite a challenge for me. This set went ok, but I think it could have been better. Part of the challenge is organizing the material in an interesting way so the set has an overall shape. Here is a list of concepts that I came up with before I performed (sort of my own mini oblique strategies):

*Slow development
*Joy when possible (but earned)
*Detuning = confusion & ectascy
*Darkness and Noise
*Channel Emotions and frustrations out
*Subvert Expectations
*Trust yourself to let go
*Tension & Release
*Contrasts
*Beautiful -> noisy -> chaotic -> relief

My setup lately has incorporated both the excellent Time Freezer and the super awesome Sooperlooper plugin. Time freezer is a granular resynthesizer excellent for making drones to solo on top of, and sooperlooper is an excellent looping plugin. If you haven't used it, it has unlimited overdubbing (with undo and redo), you can change playback speed and direction (excellent for the reverso bits) at any time, as well as lots of other features I've barely scratched the surface of.

I think next time I will come in with more prewritten themes and try to improvise based off of those - it will give me a little more security.

Sooo good...I really wish I could have been there. damn. Nice work.

Your set really has improved greatly, the fact you had been working on these different concepts really did pay off and was very noticable.... very dynamic for a drone set.

I esp. liked the part where the granular plugin + plucked cello made for an oddly percussive song.

Thanks!

That was odd...receiving straight praise from mlbot without any puns, photoshop, or D&D metaphors.

But appreciated.

lovely! I've been looking at that time freezer plugin for a while now, put off by them not offering a trial or anything though. how does it run? take up much cpu usage?

Sounds beautiful Ted!!! I love the evolution of your live performances, and I'm sure they will keep getting better and better. Keep up the good work! Cellos really pull my strings (no pun intended) ...

It takes hardly any CPU on my macbook (2-3% maybe). Plus, I really like the sound of it (though I haven't used the other grainfreezers like spectral monkeyage). I have it set to drone at an octave below what I play - and have the pitch of it set to an expression pedal for huge detuning fun.

The one thing I wish was that the freeze button was momentary - it's latching in the current implementation.

Also, it sounds absolutely lurvely on vocals.
4ED DnD come out today are you syked???

Do people still play it with dice?

I thought you had to spend $1000 in trading cards just to be a 1st level half-orc half-dork

WOW. I really liked this...especially when it gets all cinematic about 20 minutes in. I just cant imagine a corpse painted face playing this.

fantastic textures! really diggin the distorted bits. got a bit of jimi hendrix wailing to it.

Excellent, dude. Really reaches a nice stride in the last 10 minutes I think - love the little mostly clean prelude w/sinewave too. Dope!
