Holy crap! Just got off the phone with one of the guys from Manchester's The Travelling Band - totally not EM, but not bad if you're into that old-timey folk rock thing - and hoo-lordy was he ever soft-spoken. Couldn't understand a bloody word, and I grew up with an Englishman (my dad) in the house.
I hope it's a special case for him and not indicitive of an area-wide plague of mumble ducks, otherwise you guys need a serious lesson in enunciation. Oh well.
On a side note, there was a horrible amount of hiss on the line, which just made matters worse. Any advice on cleaning up a trans-Atlantic phone recording? EQ dipping, perhaps?

I'm getting pretty decent results playing around with the Audio Restoration plug-in in Sound Forge. Still a mumbler, though.

The new iZotope Restoration app is amazing, I highly recommend it. It might even have a soft-spoken mumble enunciator built in...but don't quote me on that.
