For the moment I'm also looking for some cheap stompbox' to use in conjunction with nanoloop . But when I mean cheap ithas to be dirtcheap ...;-)
I know there are some excellent efx out there like the Big Muff etc (I enquired about this some years ago but with the new site all this has evaporated ) ..
has anyone used the Danelectro Fab series of efx ?
How about the (hmhm) behringer line of efx ?
What would you recommend as Delay to create drooney/dub-style progressions ... what min. delaytime would be needed 4-5 sec ?

used proco rats can be found on ebay under $40 sometimes. same with some of the muff variations.

I haven't played with nanoloop through fx all that much. I have one vocal filter patch on my micromodular that is awesome for running long noise drones. I can adjust lfo speed and lfo shape that modulate the filter. It's really fun.
A lot of distortions, IMO, are not interesting sounding until you are running harmonies through them. Most of them are made to accentuate overtones that sound good on guitar (like powerchords). A Behringer GDI21 might be a good one to check out, though. They're $30 and are very versatile (they're sansamp GT2 copies). The GDI would probably help get everything to line level as well.
If you could get a cheap line mixer and a stereo delay, you could run one of the outputs of the delay back through the line mixer for feedback fun. (if you pan different sounds left and right, you can even use the line mixer to control levels of nanoloop). Maybe add some versatile modulation (flanger or chorus or something) and you could have a nice little drone setup.

Roshi : on the delay I definetly won't lmit myself to stompbox' ... nowadays I'm using the simple delay in Live (3) which is doing fine I must say ... mmm, micromodular : that's for me the ultimate must-have !

I would definitely say check out the GDI21. It's in your price range.

i've heard that the fab series is pretty decent, although they tend not to be very flexible, eg no depth knob, etc.
old DOD distortions go extremely cheap on ebay, and they are generally speaking totally brutal devices.
there's always the realistic reverb - cheapes analog delay on the market, great for lofi garbage effects.
scour ebay, put your price limit, and check anything that looks interesting on link

yeah what flies said. but if you happen to find some of the old zoom series they are really good. like the zoom 1010 or older. you can usually find them for cheap. and they have all kinds of distortions and a decent delay on the same board. plus they sound great for synth sounds and drum machines, plus vocals. i bought one a while ago for like $20.

The Behringer knockoffs of the Boss pedals are pretty crappy. Rough digital distortion, at hot levels really screw up the signal.
I have three of them that I got for circuit bending. Great for that purpose, since they are cheap and end up sounding pretty dirty, but I wouldn't recommend them for much else.

on the topic of the zoom 1010, i think boss did one similar to that. i think it may have been the be5 or something like that
also try the arion pedals. they're normally pretty cheap and a lot of them have stereo outs too.

To go somewhat further on this topic ... I recently bought a Danelectro Fab Metal .. really a crunchy little pedal ... it's my first stompbox ever , but I like it . It's far more harsh on guitar , but it adds a very nice crunchy edge to SK-1/Gameboy/etc input . Also on it's own you can make some nice noisescapes ... guess youcan't go wrong on a 20€ stompbox ;-)
