Today I realized that my studio has been disconnected since march and I haven't even missed it. Whenever I get the urge to make some music I just hook up my electric guitar to a small practice amp. One cable. Or two if I want to use a distortion pedal.
Looking over at my desk/"studio" area it's a fucking vipers nest of cables of all shapes and sizes and I know that recording a song would require at least a couple of hours of crawling. I guess I'll get around to it one of these days.
I wonder what a drop b tuning would sound like.

Then sort out some decent cabling management or forever look like this: link
You can get velcro cable ties but they are a tad expensive for a roll but you'll only buy once. link

my wife is always bemoaning the rats nest behind the desk. I always tell her "well then why don't i just buy this this and this to fix it" and she shuts up. My problem is having too many cheapo little things, instead of one better item, or a rack. Like I have a mixer and an outboard preamp and a soundcard. I could consolidate all three things into a firepod. With $400...

I hang all my cables on a tie rack that I've mounted to a wall.
I don't have to be organized.

It's not the cables.
It's just the fact that electronic music is shitty and boring.
Rock n roll yeeaaahhh! (Howard Dean scream)

Samski: some of those bird nests I created in my job!!
Unfortunately, I dont work in data networks any more or I would have nicked a big roll of those cable ties. I did have a few but only enough to send about a dozen ties to someone. I'll keep an eye out for when they run some cabling in the building and then I'll steal 'em all!!

I say make a project of it armed with velcro straps/loops and/or long twist-ties. No different than mowing the lawn in the sense that it's gotta be done. Use strategic locations to run Midi and audio cables close together like a virtual conduit and maybe even move some equipment around to accomodate less places that they have to seperate. ie. Try to centralize the cabling lines admidst the gear with minimal length needed to break off to their endpoints. All lines leading to one device, save for AC power cabling, can be tied together.
