Electronic Music 411 - Toronto em411 meetup?

nope, not me.
I'm not cool enough to be seen in public here.
There are only a few of us, I think? I wouldn't be averse though.
Toronto people (myself included) are often very busy, I find, so it might be tough to coordinate.
Something to do with having to work so much to pay the ridiculous rents.

a few of us used to hang out every couple of months to drink beer and talk shop - they even had a name for it on the old site - emMeets. we even put on a few shows way back in 2003 and 2004. i seem to be the only one left on here from those days. at the time there were probably close to 10 torontonians active on the board. plus, there was a local forum that admin killed and replaced with the much less useful 'area' feature which just lets you see blogs from other ontario people. once the site got overhauled the local interaction seemed to fall below critical mass.

bah. now i'm getting all weepy and nostalgic...

i got interested in seeing who else was in toronto that posts regularly. i noticed some familiar names: subset, adcBicycle, MatthewCosta, 11t1, Psyingo but not many regulars. i know shawhan, but i haven't seen or heard of him posting (maybe in the events section).

but, one name that stuck out was admin! is this for real, is em411 maintained in t.o.?

i've never met anyone who posts on this site... i'm a little reclusive and very busy with school/work/music. and i'm on cape cod for the summer anyways.

I'm in Toronto... near queen/shaw.

I don't remember hearing about any meet ups in 2003/4, but I think I was just starting to browse around this site around that time.

I'd be down for beers and shop talk some time, for sure!

^^cool! yeah, we should do all meet up before/after someone's show. i won't be back til september though. i can't guarantee that i won't think you're all a bunch of assholes, or that you guys won't think i'm an asshole. but, at least we'll know. i go to i am robot and proud (shawhan) shows sometimes, so maybe i've seen some of you already. but yeah, definitely when i get back for school.

lol. whoops. well, the old design did seem to encourage more local interaction. my whole toronto social life sprung up from this site after i moved back from the uk, so i shouldn't complain...

truthfully, i haven't been to many em shows in toronto as of late. autechre was the last one. before that i played wavelength back in march and i guess i went to suction records 'now we are dead' kick off. other than that, i've been taking it easy. guess i've seen a few techno things, but that's never really been the focus of this site.

btw, i personally consider this the best run site on the internet. i had assumed there was a large team of highly paid professionals running this site, a "brain trust", so to speak, but if its the work of just one man, well, maybe you should be more aptly called a superman.

im not in toronto, im in sarnia, which is 3 hours away, but mah girlfriend (darkstartron on here) is moving there in august, so ill be there quite a bit im assuming so id be down for a meet... i wanna meet you guys, especialy minisystem, we need to hang out in his basement, so i can steal his modular and stuff it in my man purse.

im assuming i would have been in the same room as a lot of the toronto em411'ers for the autechre show. too bad we didnt do a meet before hand.

Yes, I've always envied minisystem's setup... there is only one guy in the city I know that has anything like that in his studio, but he doesn't hang out on here, that I know of.

I still try to frequent a lot of shows, but my musical tastes seem to be shifting and I am not finding much of what I am looking for in the city these days. Oh wells...

I've organized and played a couple in the last few months, mainly at the gladstone's art bar - but due to poor attendance who knows how much longer it will last.
