so i've been dicking around with midines ever since my lsdj cart crashed and erased 2 years of work, it's been fun. I was getting used to tracking things out with it, running it through my korg for some filter sweep bass badness and then what the fuck it stops working.
At first i thought i had pulled the wiring off the board, anyone who has a midines cart knows that the midi cable isn't securely fastened in there, so i opened it up and lo and be fucking hold they are still securely attached, and there is nothing obviously wrong with the board.
I've tried resetting the NES, disconneting-reconnecting everything in every order imaginable, using the midiout from my microkorg as a kontroller, and it's still not working. (yes i blew on it)
the last thing i was doing before it quit was experimenting with different midiCC's in Ztracker, just feeling my way around what works and doesn't, then it cut out and no sound was heard from it ever again.
given that this is the second equipment failure/malfunction in the past week, i am not sure that i should touch electronics ever again, unless it is a toaster descending into the bath.
has anyone else had a similar experience? i made a joke to myself about the MIDINES EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD and sending it back to x|k for service but he is a busy busy man who can hardly make new carts let alone service the old ones. Any bets on if he would bother?

i dont own one and this may be an obvious one...but looking at the midi spec, CC #7 is master volume on each of the 4 channels...make sure you havent just turned the volume down on all the channels.
i would definately email xik directly thru the wayfar website if i were you.

i think xik WOULD bother. he's helped at least one other person with a problem here in the past. For a guy who makes a midi retrofit for the NES, he's about as nice as they come! I am still shopping for just the right NES before I order mine.
