I wouldn't submit this as a release (besides, I just released something else like yesterday) but here's a little session I find interesting:
cloudscapes_boy.mp3
Used nothing more than my guitar, various pedals/effects/mixer/loopers/ebay/bow and cable noise. :D The original recording is over 25 minutes long, I shortened it to a bit over 11 by cutting the more boring parts out. I really want to expand on this track, add layers of subtle synths and field recordings. Maybe emphasize a few interesting melodies here and there (like the 5:20 - 6:00 parts) with some real instruments/synths for a minute or so, but for the most part I want to leave it minimalist.
The picture was taken a few minutes before I started. :P

Thanks. =)
Admitedly they're not *all* directly from the guitar, like the swirly feedbacky stuff in the second half is initially guitar noise, but then processed and mangled quite a bit through a bent delay/looper and the mixer.

i really enjoy the note/tone changes that start happening at about 5:00. especially when you bring in those rolling digital noise bursts, or whatever they are. when it calms down around 6:20, i was expecting those skittery cloudscape computer beats to come fading in. but instead you bring in those really awesome tremolo'd/filtered note burst, which i really like the sound of. i think you should've built a lot more layers of that and elimated that silly ringmod/circuit bent swirling sound that rings throughout the last half.
so in conclusion, more gated/tremolo's/choppy guitar bursts, and less tweety bird sounds.
i really like the abrupt end and pic, btw.

thanks for the input energygiant, your ideas in these awkward-to-criticize kinds of sounds is valued!
this is far from a finished track. it's a quick idea if anything, but I'm really looking forward to working on it some more!
this recordings is exactly why I need to invest in a firewire mixer where I can record each channel independantly. there's a lot in the levels of certain effects/instruments I want to change, but can't easily since it's all flattened in one WAV. a lot of these experiments happen on a whim and I don't really know what I'll end up with untill it's finished.
I also enjoy the note changes at around 5:00! for the whole 4:00-6:00 bit, I'm going to try and reduce the amount of choppy feedback by a *tiny* bit (just so that it doesn't overwhelm those who like their music loud) and emphasize the note changes, especially at 5:23-onward. the rolling digital noise bursts is the work of the zvex fuzz factory put through two tremolos, I like it, though it will be difficult for me to reproduce it as it just "happened" all of a sudden. everything gets too muddy for my tastes too quicky at 5:50, I boost the higher freqs a tiny bit (though the track is cut up in Live, I haven't done any EQ work on it yet). the dirty tremolo guitar bursts are cool, and as you sugested I might try and put a few more layers of that there. I like the droney choppy rumbles later on but won't really touch it, except sprinkle some tones here and there to emphasize its "melody".
I don't mind the swirly birdy sounds actually, though I'll be first to admit they're quite harsh at times. unfortunatelly, I can't remove them easily from the mix (as I said, it's all recorded as one giant mixdown). I don't really mind them, but I'd definatelly goign to try and reduce their occasional harshness.
I'm thinking I'll try and put some subtle field recordings in the first part, before it gets too loud. the gutiar is REALLY lonely and centered.

updated link with a slightly different version. this shit's hard to add to, I want to retain most/all the textures so I cant add stuff that's too rythmic.
