A friend of mine is from Luxembourg and we have a long running joke about German speakers not having a sense of humour. [Fact is he is a very funny guy].
My friend is very into political satire and had said about this guy Volker Pispers, who is sort of the German equivalent of Mark Thomas. He wanted me to see some of his shows but with me being monolingual and my friend speaking Lux, German and French, he had to wait until either I learnt German or he found a subtitled video.
A lot of the jokes are regional to Germany & Europe but if you are aware of European political players then you will get them. If you dont, then try reading up on them. but generally, a lot of it is just spot on intelligent observations. Apparently, the subtitles are a quite accurate translation.

i like him usually, but he does get a bit preachy from time to time. handsdown the best german comedian / satire dude is Georg Schramm. Pure genious.
