--> so, impeachment proceedings against "uncle dubya" have been going on here in the states since friday... it is now sunday night and headlines are eerily silent on the newschannels/newspaper front.
i hear that washington insiders are saying that if bush is impeached, there will be "an event" where usa will go to war with iran and marshall law will be declared domestically. kinda scary.
my girlfriend suggested we befriend someone with a tank-- and quickly.
so... uh... mr. aphex, if you're listening... and you really do have a tank... please drive it over to my house. we have solar panels for when they cut the electric, and we have a really nice hammock you can sleep in. it's really temperate here and the mexican food is unbeatable. you'll love our rabbits. we've been stocking up on the booze. uh... please?

i think they need something like 2/3 of the senate and 2/3 of the house to get it passed. and the democrats don't actually give a damn, because he's out of office in 5 months anyways.

seems like an attention grabbing stunt by kucinich. kinda dumb politically for the democrats, i don't see it helping their case any in the election.

the WWIII scenario/conspiracy i heard involved a dubya assassination and cheney declaring marshall law and cancelling the election. plus there's the 20 year cycle: every president elected on a 20th year (1980, 1960, 1940, ...) has been either shot or died in office since lincoln (1860). and bush hasn't had either happen to him. still, i'm an optimist and my money's on him breaking the streak. if i was him i'd just hole up in one of those mile underground bunkers for the next few months. still, maybe thats just where they want him to hide...

i have a hammock and a grill!

sell your whale puke, go nuclear.

you can do it.

edit: william henry harrison (1840) also died in office. reagan (1980) broke the death streak, but still took a bullet.

whose in favor of a scenario where a standard of democracy is not mitigated at the expense of maintaining complacency?

i'd sell my internets for justice.

Every time I see this comment made it makes me laugh. You have a president that is running amok, reaming your country and the wider world unchecked and yet the only time you lot get excited for an impeachment is when the previous guy got his cock sucked!!!

The US has the framework in place, that in the event of the executive branch in any shape or form, breaches the constitution that they swear to uphold and protect, to remove them from office and prosecute them for such crimes. Yet all I have heard all the time from people is "well, bush only has so many months left in office so it wont make a difference and its a bad move for the democrats".

Wake the fuck up and understand that if left unchecked, it sets the bar for what the executive thinks it can get away with in the future. And by not doing anything you are silently complicit to all of their future crimes.

As for Kucinich being an attention seeker - maybe the guy just fucking cares. Ever considered that?

I'd be satisfied if they make an example of him and just try him for war crimes after he gets out of office. The only potential good that would come out of this lame ass impeachment attempt is made futile by the fact that it's foundation is already obvious: The checks and balances system of government was compromised by reports of false intelligence, which opened the door for all the other bullshit. So congress is just as guilty for being ignorant, then and now. The most that was tried at the time was Doe vs. Bush link which naturally crashed and burned very quickly.

Zanf, Americans value politicians who give the appearance of being above "partisan" political squabble. We also know that most impeachment hearings take longer than five months.
This is, of course, completely ignoring the fact that partisan political is actually a principal that our governing system was based upon. American politics and American political will are damaged goods, and apathy has been the norm for decades. This is actually a period in which we have had the highest voter turnout in a long, long time.

Also, I don't know who this Marshall Law fellow is, but he'd be great in a western. I think what you are talking about is martial law.
President Cheney.

who could seriously want that?

you're assuming that we actually cared about that either. dont make the mistake of letting our media tell you what we do and do not care about, please.

yes, youre exactly right. the problem here is, we have a legislature too worried about the powers that they don't have to be exercising the powers that they do.

once again you assume ignorance. mistake. The rampant abuse of the executive branch has been snowballing basically since Abraham Lincoln and his power grabs. the list goes on ... Roosevelt, Nixon, and now Bush .... whose fucking illegal spying was voted in by Obama no less.

here's where i agree with you. yes, Kucinich i think really does care more about his integrity than how he looks in front of the american people. its part of the reason why he got laughed out of the presidential race. i dont agree with his idea of domestic policies, but i do think hes honest. plus his wife is fucking hot.

The bumper sticker I've seen is "Impeach Cheney First". That solves the President Cheney problem.

As for the wag-the-dog attack upon Iran, Bush will do that no matter what happens with impeachment. No need to fear impeaching him. Impeach him anyway.

The reality is that there is no way it'll go through. So what? Republicans won't vote for it, no way. But Kucinich's "stunt" forces Republicans to vote to prop up Bush, who is the least popular Preznit in poling history. So that'll help more Democrats get elected, by hanging Bush around the Republicans' neck like a dead squirrel.

And, also, it is "MARTIAL" law. Marshall Law is what Marshall Crenshaw imposes when he sings pop songs.

Or in Jay and Silent Bob's world, their arch nemesis Federal Wildlife Marshal Willenholly.

My only quabble with this is that, yes, your mexican food is indeed unbeatable.

Come to Austin and see for yourself.
(your beach is nice, though)

whether kucinich is merely trying to get attention is beside the point. i believe that our elected representatives have a responsibility to uphold the law, and given that bush et al have so flagrantly violated that law (both domestic and international), i think it is perfectly reasonable that kucinich should bring up articles of impeachment against bush.

+1 for impeachment.

Bloody fucking murderers.
