What, he's narrating? Is that remix for a grade 9 history class?
Oh wait, I see, it's "poetry" - "war isn't just immoral, it's stupid inhuman and syllogistic"
Argh.

people have this funny notion that remixes should sound exactly like the originals but with all the hooks looped and some shit bassline and voice overs added.
The last remix I did I received an email from them asking 'how is this a remix? I don't recognize anything.' Last time I checked, taking the audio the person gives you and turning it into something new was the whole idea.

I entered a remix in the Peter Gabriel Shock the Monkey contest, have gotten similar responses from the site regulars. One comment verbatim: "If you dont't use any vocals ore guitar riff's it's hard to recognise it's Shock the monkey." I had a good laugh at that. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one encountering this sort of stuff.
Thanks for the tip on the Ring contest, might have a go at, being from Canadia and all.

I've downloaded the kit for that peter gabriel contest, but havent put any time into it because I know that's the type of response I'll get. I think I'll throw together a remix the night before and put no effort into so I'll have a chance at winning. :P

I think cbc was thinking they will try to appeal to the young kids and get them interested in opera type of musics since this is the peice that the cbc is going to open the new opera house with (not the remix but the orginal) as the the example remix being bad well no comment risen ashen is not one of my fav artists but he is a recognised as one fo canadas better know house producers well hes recognized by the media which does not say much...
Im of the view of dozius remix is what ever it is you do with the sounds ... making a track sound like the orginal is not nessarly a remix but rathr a cover version a remix is a remix making some thing new from some thing else. Ive had remixes rejected becasue of just that reason: this is not a remix its a new song I shrug and go well you already paid for it take it or leave it ;)

groan.
those terrible percussive claps, the brutal echo "it has all been orche-strated-strated-strated-strated-strated"
i honestly thought he was going to say "see you in hell" during the last line, instead of "see you on the battlefield"

I started playing around with this clip tonight and realized how much I loathe this music. Couldn't they have chosen Janacek's Jenufa or Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande or something somewhat interesting to open the opera house (crap, I'd have settled for Verdi or Mozart)?
Wagner makes me want to reach through time and smack him.
Don't think I'll bother entering. One of the rules is that the original must be clearly heard in the mix. Every pass I've taken at it, I've ended up burying it just to make it go away. I suppose I could go the Risen Ashen route for good exercise of self-loathing.
