hi,
p here.
It's time for me to try to get my sh*t together (for the 3rd time). I'm 29. And failing pretty miserably at keeping any kind of online presence or steady musical output, but hopefully I'll learn from past mistakes.
I have given up the aliases.
I have secured link and am 3/4 through with the website. (unpretentious sounding bios for arty music are hard and I'm still not sure whether it's better to have a music player or just /song.mp3 links)
I have created a myspace profile link/patricknorrissound
and have changed my virb profile name to link/patricknorris
I bought a zoom h2 to get a little better quality in my field recordings.
I finally upgraded to max 5 and am still having a little trouble with the new interface. (no segmented patch chords? no blank white windows? I don't recognize objects anymore)
I'd like to apologize for all the half-starts and terrible collaboration track record and any other headaches. I hope I haven't burned too many bridges here.
I'd also like to thank the people here who have encouraged and pushed me to actually get the few things I have together finished. And those responsible for one of the happiest weeks in my life (dbfest 2006, thanks jdg).
This site is a huge inspiration. Since my connections for venues locally fell through (2 years ago) this place has been one of the few things that helped me keep at this.
sorry If I seem sappy, I just found out I don't have mouth cancer. (which worried me a little). So for me this is kind of like new years.
and I'll try to say more in the release section.
sorry for the long one.

I wonder if most of us are really artists who thrive on the internet (doing things like track a month), etc.
My output is seldom, but I tend to finish a lot of it at once.
Internet killed the music star?

Also, I tend to get discouraged when I read stuff on Create Digital Music about the latest greatest tools/hottest music. Sometimes I think I'd rather not know.
The internet creates this addiction to novelty

Last thing to add:
It seems like it's more important to internet people to be the first to release an album with a crazy new tool than use that tool well (I'm thinking of the Kaossilator albums in particular)

I think that has alot to do with the situation I'm in that and my favorite kind of music (lowercase) being not the hot thing anymore though there's still so much to explore and with the continuation of the loudness war practices there's still a place for quiet. I have trouble going against the grain. I tend to want to just release something that sounds closer to what others are doing than attempt to forge my own path.
I'd rather spend years getting it together than to release something I'm not 100% behind (when it sounds too close to someone elses work I have trouble accepting it as legitimate). which leads to toiling in obscurity.
not to mention the appeal of sacrificing a body of work for instant feedback on the net. I'm really guilty of that myself. everytime I get something cool together I want to show it to you guys

you were who I was thinking (there were others don't want to leave anybody out) of when I mentioned the encouragement.
edited for what sounded pompous. I didn't intend to sound that way.

well you should be stoked you have made a few steps in the right direction, all you have to do is write a bit each day and it will come together,,,
writing is such a strange activity, its very hard, incredibly hard some days, but i always think how nice it will be to look back and see this great big body of work i created regardless of what happens in every other aspect of my life, that is what keeps me going
big high five to you

I was up unitl 4 am working on max patches. I'm getting used to max 5 already I found those segmented patch chords. not to mention a wicked tab object that makes multi tiered interfaces possible.
I recorded some lovely sounds in rural alabama this weekend:

should make for some interesting source material
my girlfriend has been very supportive...she's been staying out of my way despite the fact that we should be lounging together in the evenings. so tonight is for her.
