Here's a vid of a proof of concept granular app i built to test joystick input.
link
I've been tinkering with SuperCollider lately; it's a really nice environment. Anyone who gets frustrated with the 'linking-stuff-with-lines' approach of graphical patcher environments like Max should certainly take a look. It's free too.
Eventually i hope to build a SC app to work with my DIY monome (nearly finished)

joystick needs z axis control for maximum wankage
Still, very cool!

v. nice.
on your sticky monome keys, the monome guy recommended covering them with babypowder... crude but apparently works.

thanks!
roshi: by z axis do you mean the twistable handle sticks? that'd be great, i have my eye on the 2nd hand markets for one of those.
adcbicycle: thanks, yes i'd seen the babypowder fix and tried it on my pads too, didnt help though because the sticking turned out to be caused by a bunching up of the silicone close to where the screws were joining the pads to the inner faceplate. I think this wouldn't be an issue for the official monomes. I think i fixed all the sticking by snipping away unecessary bits of the silicone to prevent the bunching. I'll update my blog about it when i'm sure.

Very cool, never worked with the HID device stuff but it looks like it works great!
Also, you might want to also try BufGrain.ar for granular stuff - I use it a lot.

hi fichu, yes i tried GrainBuf briefly also, In general the SC grain ugens seem very good. I settled on WarpIn for this because it allows a very easy way to instantly 'freeze' a live input signal and then loop over the buffer its captured to.
GrainBuf is nicer in a way though because it allows absolute control over the position of the playhead, while WarpIn gives indirect control instead: letting you vary the speed at which the playhead advances.

I meant the joystick should also be controlled in the up/down direction.
Meditate on this for a second.

oh! yes that would certainly be wankerier. I wonder if such a jstick exists... sheath displacement control.
