--> I have a friend who's been producing for freaking ever. He showed me some of his new tunes this weekend and they're astonishing, jaw-dropping, amazing pieces of electronic music. The sound is like this beautiful Detroit techno/electro infused IDM all running at about ~145-150 bpm. Like Richard Devine meets Arovane meets Underground Resistance, yet still very much its own style. It doesn't fit any one genre, but could fit on labels releasing "IDM", dubstep, or experimental techno/electro.

This music needs to be heard and I want to help recommend some labels to which he should send demos. I have a short list of appropriate labels for this kind of stuff, but as I'm mainly in techno land these days, I figured it'd make sense to ask peeps on here for some recommendations. What labels are releasing stuff like this these days? His music is seriously *tob caliber*, so aim high -- wide distribution, non-download-only, etc.

He actually has a long history of techno releases, but has switched his focus to more emotive and experimental works.

Thanks,
Steve

er. hello

haha, a bit silly to recommend oneself, but we accept demos and people have called us an "idm label" in the past. we're moving away from that and more into deep detroity house and dub atmospheres but if your friend's music isn't _too_ hectic and disjointed it might fit the bill. office @neoouija.com ;)

@ ignatius - already on the list.

@ filarion - i know the neo ouija imprint quite well! that might be a good match, actually. i'll pass along your info.

Cozy Music is always looking for original and weird. Download only tho... http://cozymusic.org

n5md, subvariant, sending orbs ... maybe ad noiseam. does imputor put anything out anymore?

is this our friend in chicago?

nope. and he's remaining anonymous for now in order to separate this identity from his techno persona, ya know?
If you think the music appeals to techno audience, i would say keep it in techno labels.
IDM scenes are cool and all, but CD sales usually are a digit lower than those in techno scene...

I know Kranky is an open door for music that doesn't fit any genre.

but do they still sell CDs ? i mean: the download only distribution is allright, isn't it ? i have some friends who release only on beatport and they sell some good amounts of tracks.

well state who he is.. he's got a much better chance of being signed if he's released previously under a different moniker.

Like Richard Devine meets Arovane meets Underground Resistance

why don't you just come out and say it's you?

haha! it totally sounds like one of those loveline radio show callers... "hello, i, er... a friend of mine... got the herps in vegas and is wondering how to break it to his girlfriend?"
