--> Man these guys were great before they broke up. I know their sound consisted of live instruments, but they also had TONS of crazy sounds that I can only assume are synths or effects boxes and I'm pretty sure I can hear a drum machine on some of their tracks. Does anyone know their gear list? Do you think they qualify as EM?

mark de gli antoni (http://www.horsetricks.com ) was their keyboard player and did much of his work on an akai sampler. that sounds like EM to me. the "drum machine" sounds were yuval gabay's acoustic drums being mangled, usually by tchad blake in the studio.

brilliant band and fantastic live, too!

btw mark de gli antoni has a neat release on tzadik.

i went to see g love and special sauce at the university here and who was the surprise opening act but M.Doty himself. It was an awesome show.
Just pulled El Oso out of the closet and dusted it off for a listen today...quality.

Soul Coughing only used soft synths.

I was super into them when i was 16 and was lucky to see them live. I remember thinking that the drummer couldn't possibly be that precise...

i believe they used a casiotone manufactured in the people's republic.

the people's republic of casiotone
