--> Not too music related...Oh well.

Edit: It's finally out!!!!!!!! link

OMG...the fan translation of Mother 3 (sequel to the SNES RPG earthbound) is nearly complete! link I've been waiting for two years (with bated breath) to play this game in english...and evidently it's been a hard uphill battle for Mato & company (the translators/hackers) to put a patch together for the japanese version of the ROM.

Earthbound is one of my favorite RPGs from the super nintendo era - the story of a boy and his friends (armed with bats, frying pans, and their fists) against an evil enemy who comes from the future has stuck with me. It's utterly charming, silly, and heartbreaking...at one section, you are travelling through a vast desert and if you look closely, you can find a speck which is the black sesame seed, who wants nothing to but to be reunited with its friend, the white sesame seed, who is far across the other side of the desert (and equally hard to find). A good part of Earthbound's charm is due to the music - it has the usual assortment of varied tunes (sea tunes, bossa novas) but also a good deal of ambient and techno in it... (an amazing review of earthbound can be read here: link )

Mother 3 evidently has even more different kinds of music, and has a "rhythm based battle system", which means if you press A in time to the beat, you can win battles faster (this is much better explained in the excellent review here: link ). As someone who spent many an RPG battle impatiently jamming the A button to get through a battle faster, this is just genius!

Anyway, I'm way excited...It's been something like 15 years since Earthbound, and to get to play a sequel to one of my favorite games just gets me psyched.

Edit. Duh! Here's a video that gives you an idea of how weird & strange this game is:

omg omg, nearly finished?! i thought this was a blog to tell me it was done! oh how much longer?!

Supposedly the end of this week patchers will be available!

Believe it or not!

oh nose.. there goes my life. teh orig was truly a great game.

this is by far my favorite SNES game. I cannot wait for this! WOW!

damn, it's been a long time since i have played earthbound. i have been getting back into SNES these days. playing through tactics ogre in japanese right now.

im actually playing FF Tactics RIGHT NOW! Calculators all over the bitch!

As much as I love Earthbound, im convinced that it is both social commentary on American Political and social constraint and also a potent psychological experiment unleashed upon the public.

Read that review, tofu...it pretty much goes as far as saying Itoi was really toying with people in terms of Earthbound

GOOD TO KNOW thank you sir

Earthbound rrrúles!

Wow Roshi, I am floored.

I am one of the biggest Murakame fans on earth... I had no idea.... Geezus... Im reading "Kafka on the Shore" right now.. It makes so much sense that his writing influenced the way the understated behavior and outlook and even conflict of this game works. Unbelievable. RANTRANTRANT.

OMG R THERE NERDS ON THIS SITE?!?!?!?! OH NOES!

NEVAR!
