--> So I've been having this issue with netflix lately where they take forever to say they've recieved a DVD. Forever like 5-15 days. I have to report everything missing before they'll ship me anything. If I didn't do that, I'd get between 3-9 movies a month according to their average turnaround time for me. But thats probably not news to most of you.
The part of this that is really really(YA RLY) entertaining is when you call customer service. I had to call today to get my account removed from hold. They are so super-scripted that I can't even ask a question or anything, they just keep going on their script. What a bunch of trolls.
"Would I like a call from the post office about what my shipping delay could be?"
No matter how much they throttle me, netflix finds a way to blame the post office. They are absolutely certain its the USPS, and not the company widely known for doing this.
What I really want to know is, are any of you having this problem, and could somebody please reccomend a better service?

does blockbuster throttle?

netflix throttling is widely known. it's systematic and automated. for the 1st couple of months of membership, they're really good at sending out new dvds, but as you can imagine, they make a lot more money by dragging their feet a little. i used to get over twice the dvd's/month as i get now and i'm really good about sending them back in (in the mailbox the day after i get them).

switching to blockbuster soon, but they prolly do the same.

i'll assume that your local post office isn't run by complete incompetents - have you had trouble in general? I assume no.

Next time you call, after yakking at the customer support and getting the inflexible script, ask to talk to the manager. customer support is a shit job, and if the company doesn't seem to really care about having a good track record of customer support, all you can do is make somebody sufficiently annoyed by you that they will actually do something about it just to get you off their back.

first thing you do is ask for the managers first and last name, enough to locate him definitely the next time you call, but without actually asking for his contact info yet. explain to the manager that it defies the laws of probability that every single dvd you return should be mishandled by USPS. It's simply not possible, flat out (convince yourself of this if you don't already believe it, there's no doubt that netflix is at fault here). throw statistics at him (x number of dvds versus Y that didn't work properly), then ask him if USPS is capable of failing that consistently, but no there must be some other explanation. go through every single transaction they ever messed up in detail, and ask him to tell you again that it was the USPS each and every time. maybe even explain to him that you believe his company is deliberately delaying your DVDs to lower their costs. i assume that when you sign up you get some kind of "user agreement". find it and point out to the manager where his company is not living up to this agreement and threaten legal action if necessary. Find other people who have netflix and find out whether they all have the same problem. If they do, then yack at him and tell him his company is full of shit, but even better if they don't - tell him that you're being singled out. Just keep yelling at him and don't let him off the phone until he gives you some way of getting back in touch with HIM PERSONALLY and promises to do something about it.

Now wait for nothing to happen for about a week, and call this same person every week and chew his testacles till it's a priority for him to get you off his back.

see wikipedia for possible alternatives: link

edit: it seems like throttling is their official policy, they mention it in their terms of use. go ahead and try the above, but you can expect the guy to flat out tell you that it's their corporate policy to screw their customers.

yeah blockbuster does the same shit. i quit them both already. now i just ask the library to buy a movie if i want to see it, and they do.

yeah and blockbuster only releases edit version of movies... but of course they don't tell you that.

i shouldve known from experience, but DAMN i cant believe that is ok.

I haven't had a single problem and I've been using them for about a year. My DVDs are received almost the next day and they ship out new ones the same day they receive. The only delays or missing DVDs have been my fault.

Sorry to hear about your problems tho.

that is real smart.
the libraries where i've lived don't have a budget for that (past-tense: didn't) so i hadn't thought of that.

I had netflix, I think you problem is pretty common.
You know, before when they only had one teir of service they were really fast.
Now they have like three.
So they are porbably trying to save some money by making sure you only get 8-9 a month.
They could always blame it on "processing"
Bastards.
If I were you I'd just start copying every dvd you get.
It's not much but hey it's something, right?

About the blockbuster thing, has anyone actually reserched this?
What excatly are they editing. I heard it's mostly religuos stuff, not sex and violence.
(not that there is an excuse for any censorship, but hey they are morman.)

I really enjoyed netflix at first. so many movies especailly old and weird ones. but as time passed. all of a sudden my USPS office also "suddenly started" generating problems (funny i dont have problems with any godamn bills delivery) netflix turned into just naother bussiness trying to give me a bum deal. It blows.

i'm still going strong with my netflix membership. I think it's definitely over 2 years now. I've never experienced this. I'm definitely not dismissing it because i've heard it from all over the internet, and definitely symphathize, but I've always had great turnaround. When I'm goin hog wild on movies and when I'm very slow with my movies, I still get my new DVD in the mail within 2 days (3 if weekend).

sorry.

thats the real bummer here. I really enjoyed netflix, and I loved having a huge selection of B movies and strange things to watch. also i got totally addicted to TV on DVD.
I wish I was still one of the people who weren't blacklisted, it used to be awesome. I used to tell everybody...now I can't reccomend the service. But I can't stand to pay somebody a monthly fee and then have them suspend my account for making too much use of it. my money is too hard to come by for that.

i tried both netflix and blockbuster and found they both suck. now i just go to the local video store for some good ol fashioned $1 rentals (rent 2 get 1 free) fuck it, you can't beat it :p
