--> i took my mackie vlz 1624 mixer to pieces to clean the ribbon cable contacts and sort out the failing.outputs.

after reseating all the cables and cleaning the ribbon contacts with alcohol and putting it back together i turned turning it back. on. it feedsback on itself which is a little worrying . i have looked at all the ribbon cables and they seem to be the right way round. have i killed it?

feed back? did you eat something douring disassemling because it could be a pease of greasy bacon causing the byepass. i had that once.

no i was pretty careful.
ate my fish and chips outside

about that bacon...

Sounds to me that you have deffo crossed something over. have you got any wiring diagrams of the vlz from the net, got to be something out there.

link

There's block diagram in there. I think the fact that it's making a sound at all is a positive thing.
I really miss having one of those mixers around. I judge all other mixers on it.

bacon was my 1st thought.

if u got something feeding back maybe disassemble 1 contact at a time to isolate it.

bent pin?
any sparks/static when disassembling?

pix of the board/connectors plz

Mixicide?

I wouldn't worry, it's rarely prosecuted.

after taking it apart and putting it back together again three times it now works. i don't know what i did.
but whatever it is it fucking works.

I have learnt some valuable lessons:
1. I don't ever want to have a job fixing mixing desks.
2. Mixing desks are servicable to a point. After that god knows whats going on.
3 Take a digital photo of how everything is plugged in - else you will forget
4. Fixing yourself feels amazing but I wanted to go to the local audio lab place just to have a nosey.

i can tell you're from europe or the uk.
no one in the states says nosey...lol

p.s. - good job.

whats a nosey, precious?

to nosey : means to have a mooch about

that makes everything perfectly cromulent, thanks.
