--> I'm releasing version 1.0 of a cellular automata/MIDI mashup I wrote for the OS X platform. If you've got a host application that can output MIDI clock and can accept MIDI In from applications, you can make cool generative music. Requires OS X 10.4 as far as I know - please try it on older versions and let me know how it goes! Right now I've only tested it with Ableton Live...perhaps you guys can put it through its paces...

just had a go on my G3-PB running 10.3.9, feeding it into logic pro 7 and evrything seems to be working fine (so far, only did a 5min quicky).
two 5cent-suggestions:
- output (optional) midi CC, so you can map it easily onto other parameters than pitch (imo, pitch is the most difficult parameter, when workin with automatas)
- some kind of trigger-mode instead of steady midiclock/beat. For example, whenever Mata receives a note-on event, it will output one data event.
But, to be honest, I don't really understand yet, how the cells get translated to the pitch values...so maybe a trigger-mode woudlnt make any sense at all...
but anyway, congrats on the app and keep up the good work!

Glad to hear it's working for you! MIDI CC is planned for v2.0. I've experimented with a trigger mode, but I think that there is some cool stuff you could do by interpreting the pitch of the note sent to Mata...maybe I should just implement the trigger first and get fancy with it later.
