--> I don't use macs so I don't really care, but apparently the new macbooks are going to be restricting the copying of copyrighted materials to non-drm peripherals.

Yet another reason why I hate apple.

It's not restricting any sort of file copying. But it is restricting the display of HD video content through the HDMI port on non-DRM capable monitors, which is still pretty shitty.

really? i thought i read that it was limiting hte xfer of files to non drm mp3 players...maybe i should rtfa though.

lol! either way, wtf! also, you hear that FCC wants to mandate the auctioning of all wireless freqs? wtf is that about?!

this is pretty shitty. and i was quite a bit annoyed of this new restriction. that is really a bad move into new drm-territories.

but i's just fair: apple took away a firewire port and gave you a new way of restricting the use of your computer.

not buying any more macs then

a proper mac nerd should be able to cr4ck this

It's implemented at the hardware level, not in the OS. So cracking it is a little more difficult than just writing some code, from what I understand.

Wired ahs good coverage of this, as usual: link

yeah the new macbook pros suck, no firewire, and the shiny screen catches too many reflections, especially the shiny black surrounding area.
new macbook pros have firewire.. fw 800 is backwards compatable with 400, u just need a 800->400 cable.
the shiny screen i thought woudl be a problem but it isn't.. its an LCD backlit screen, so its not the same.. i have one, i know.

the fcc needs to be disbanded...IMO they have no right to limit the public airwaves regardless of frequency.
these guys are fucking crooks.
hey lets sell air to the highest bidder for millions or billions.

Reform them, don't disband them. Without an FCC, anyone who wants gets to use that bandwidth for free. Which means corporations with the means to drown out low powered signals will do so, and independent communications over the public spectrum essentially cease to exist. And keep in mind, those millions or billions? The FCC is a gov't agency, so they're being paid to us.

i dont like apple coz they are expensive. windows will do these things to in the future also, be sure of it. NBC doesnt really care what apple notebooks are protecting, windows is 90% of the market. Its just one of the signs that internet/filesharing etc will be regulated the same way governments/corporations did with radio and way back with printed press. The corporations are slowly but surely taking over;)

fcc just needs a new Chairman. He is a tool for the moral right.

just look at those glasses.

fant: the BT clients will just move to more advanced tech like encryption and port jumping.
