I wasted a bunch of time writing a little article about the 1970's post-punk, proto-industrial band Chrome (not the rapper, or the Finnish metal band of the same name). Mostly because I really like Chrome and got engrossed in reading old music zine clippings about them. Just figured I'd post a link in case there are any Chrome fans out there.

First-wave punk was already dying out by the late 70's. I personally hate genre names, but kind of hard to avoid, especially when discussing music history...

There is a party in SF called Chrome. It's "a hard-rock social for alternative HOMOS..." link
I am guessing it is named after the two that you are writing about.
There is also Chrome bags. Handbags for hipsters.

Neat...will definitely check it out.
We need more people writing about obscure music bands that people love...I'd love to hear something like this from djugel

My brother is a big chrome fan. I'm more of a German New-Wave guy. Der Plan, DAF, etc. Check out a music blog called Mutant Sounds... so much good stuff.
Back in the day.... especially before the internet. Trends moved quickly. Television Personalites IMHO marks the beginning of Post-Punk(..well "art punk"). People in the audience of a punk show thinking.. "I could make this genre more musical". Hence "post" , ..adding your take on something that's been built for you.
But for anything electronic or industrial soon after punk blew up.. .. I just call it New Wave to make it easier..
Off Topic. this is why I love hard minimal mid 90's techno so much. It's Post-Post techno. Brings it back to the basic's but in different hands. Swans fans making techno. It's like the Khmer Rogue but much safer.

djugel that's really intriguing. esp. about trends moving faster before the internet. bizarre! i always thought it was the opposite, i mean common sense would seem to dictate...but that's totally not true. rather, everything seems to have crystallized. like having instant, infinite connectivity has made us all so insecure. or something.
what was some techno made by Swans fans? thanks!

Stuff like the label Downwards. I had friends who were friends with them. Regis, Female, Surgeon, etc. They make pure crap now, but their mid 90's compared to other late 80's/90's techno stuff is like comparing Slayer to Led Zepplin. I very much prefer Slayer.
I was also thinking about how in all of 2000. Fantasy is dead. I realized it while sitting around unemployed playing old 90's cyberpunk videogames.
just riffin.
