"In many applications of acoustics and audio signal processing it is necessary to know what humans actually hear. Sound, which consists of air pressure waves, can be accurately measured with sophisticated equipment. However, understanding how these waves are received and mapped into thoughts in the human brain is not trivial.
Recognizing features important to perception enables scientists and engineers to concentrate on audible features and ignore less important features of the involved system. It is important to note that the question of what humans hear is not only a physiological question of features of the ear but very much also a psychological issue."
"If we live in a sympathetic field we become sympathetic, and a tendency from the abnormal to the normal presents itself by an evolution of a purely sympathetic flow towards its attractive centres. It is only under these conditions that differentiation can be broken up, and a pure equation established."

Some simplified definitions to help you get started!
Tinnitus - not a disease, just the ability to hear sounds generated by the auditory (hearing) system, evidence of compensatory mechanisms that are part of its normal function. The problem is the distress created - not the type of sound.
Misophonia - dislike of environment sound(s). With or without tinnitus! Varies from 'chalk scratching on blackboard' to dislike of all sounds around you.
Phonophobia - fear of environmental sounds. Fear that they may damage hearing or make other symptoms worse...
Hyperacusis - over-amplification of environmental sounds in the auditory pathways. Everyday sounds seem too loud, but other people aren't complaining!
Jastreboff model - a new scientific analysis of tinnitus and hyperacusis. In 10 years this thesis has never been challenged, and is being adopted and referenced by increasing numbers of researchers and clinicians. Explains clearly and simply all the above phenomena and their close relationships.
TRT - treatment based directly on the Jastreboff model. It uses a precise and individual combination of sound therapy and teaching / demystification / learning about tinnitus and hyperacusis mechanisms, with directions about how to return to normal life without provoking symptoms. 800+ professionals around the world have attended training courses and many have published identical excellent results to our own (see downloads).

i don't remember the correct term for it, but i saw a program on t.v in which they explained how if you cover a square sheet of metal in sand then bow the edge of it, the sand moves to form a shape. He had a sheet cut for each note of the major scale and the sand made a different shape for each note.
also, speaking of sand - link

have to agree with the kidko. bless the mixit that gives us these wonderful and much needed limitations. (the concept of free choice is overrated!
another cool thing is when i'm coming home from work, worn out and totally off. a few hours at the kitchen table making music with my friend mr ableton and i'm happy again!

once i filmed myself taking a dump in one of my flatmates room, then i made a song out of the audio content of the clip called "laughing and shitting". next day he handed me that quote: "mousse o chocolat" back. my therapist said it was a proper way to deal with how he always drank all my juice that i put in the fridge. i also put some jelly on his collegeblock, didn't record it though
