--> had our first break-in yesterday. kicked in the basement door, ran upstairs and stole my powerbook. left my wife's tibook, which was another floor up.

my laptop was in the living room. they must have seen it through the window.

as far as i can tell, nothing else was taken. left the tv, stereo, dvds, and all the other stuff easily liquidated.

nothing in my studio was taken, which is a huge relief.

didn't lose much on the laptop. 98% of my music stuff was backed up. the thief walked right by my external harddrive and left it...

which brings me to a question:

i use cubase. cubase does not have a universal binary yet and probably won't for the next 6 months or more (based on my last look at cubase.net . my laptop was from work, so it'll get replaced with a macbook pro. will my existing copy of cubase sx 3 be even remotely usable on the macbook???

damn sorry to hear it. i'm glad i don't live on a ground floor.

sheeeeiiiit glad to hear all your synths are safe and no real data was lost either.

doesnt macbookpro have something called 'rosetta' for running old pre-mbp apps?

sorry for your laptop, but i'm glad you had the data backed up! data is so much more important when it comes to computers... moreover they're gone to replace it without you paying anything which is extemely good!

about rosetta, i don't think it can handle audio software that well, unless you're opening projects and just render main outputs to disk... rosetta is an emulator and any emulator cannot behave quickly when responsiveness is needed... but im judging on a general basis, i've not tested it myself.

probably you're going to beg your wife to lent you her tibook
Recent blogs: first blog!

That really sucks.

A quick Google brought this SoundOnSound subscription page up, I can't read it but it has a rather promising section called "Running Cubase On Intel Macs With Rosetta". My copy of Reaktor Session refuses to open though, so it's an odd system.

EDIT: I stupidly neglected to post the link:

ha. yeah. its actually my old tibook. it'll still do the trick. i was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with cubase sx3 and rosetta on a macintel.

oh right, thanks failedsitcom. that might be worth the £ 0.99p ;)

also, i guess i could just run windows...

fucking thieves suckballs! sorry for that man. i hate hearing about thieves. bah.. glad they didn't walk out w/a synth though! i guess the M5 is pretty heavy ;)

i got an alarm installed asap when i moved into my house. monitored smoke detectors, motion detectors.. all that shit. piece of mind i guess. insurance is a must too. get some renters insurance if you dont have it already. tie a rottwieler to a stake in the front yard or something.

good luck in UB cubase question. i have no idea about rosetta.
sucks.
big time.
but good to hear it was 'just' the laptop. and that you get it replaced.
i think it won't run that great in rosetta. if it does at all....
hopefully you are getting things sorted in a good way.

fuck that!

LAME.. sorry dood.

my answer to your inquery:
get macbook pro.
boot into widnows for now to use cubase.

That sucks! Do you have renter's insurance?

the insurance company basically told me to fuck off. ie. the insured value of it would be less depreciation, there's a $500 deductable and my rates would go up...

having a look at the apple site now. 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm???

7200, MOST DEFF

even if it sucks the life out of my battery? still worth it?

totally.
