--> Firstly let me tell you-
I don't drink or do drugs.
I'm a Christian with strong faith ['Oh, here we go!' I here you say].
I'm not in a bad place in my life right now by any stretch of the imagination.

It started Sunday.
I was doing the sound [but of course] at my church and I during the service in the 'reaction' time I kept getting pictures of myself with a tattoo.
I've never even felt the urge to get a tattoo before.
But it was so vivid in my head.
It was just a tattoo of the outline of the cross on the inside of my left forearm, just a little way up from my wrist.
Thing is I don't know which way up it was [whether it'd be the right way up playing guitar because I'm right handed, or whether it'd be the right way up when my arm is stretched up].
Not the sort of thing you'd want to get done the wrong way up.

Then last night, I heard a noise, like a fly buzzing around me.
But there wasn't one.
It was almost like a fly, lowpass filtered with delay.
Unsettled me a little.

Today, just sitting on me bed, no noises anywhere, I heard what sounded like sheet metal being beaten, bathed in reverb and distorted.

What's unsettling is that these sounds weren't imagined in my head, I could really hear them.
It was almost as if whispered in my ear.
I could tell they weren't heard through a wall or anywhere distant.

I don't know what to make of it all.

Your comments and prayers would be appreciated greatly.

The reason I link this with music is because soon I will have some songs recorded.
Think Sunn O))), Einsturzende Neubauten, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Sigur Ros etc.
The songs will be based on recreating my experiencs with God through sound,
using Nanoloop, my guitar and effects I built, a Casio PT-87, my voice.
If that interests any of you, do let me know.

if this helps any my brother in law got a tattoo of a cross. he got it on his back and its HUGE like his whole back really.

i guess my point is you can get stuff you are worried about the upside-downedness somewhere that spends a lot more time right side up and is easier to figure out.

i have 4 tattoos. 2 on one leg, one on the other and a sleeve on my right arm.

the next one i am getting definately has a right side up (but is not a cross). i am getting it going up my arm if my arm is down by my side. ie. bottom at my wrist and top where my arm bends.

i think its funny though, because either way you are going to loose with that cross on your lower arm. either when you are shaking peoples hands in church and its upside down or if you raise your hands in praise and its upside down.

Room- I'm 19, 20 in March.
I looked all around my room; put some headphones on with music playing and took them off, left them on with music paused, all sorts of A/B checks.
It wasn't whistling like you get after a loud gig though. Certainly not Tinitus.
Nope, not drowsing.

Ejectorset- I'm still not sure if I want to get one, but thanks for the info anyway

I guess the only way I could figure it out is to have a cross going across my wrist, on its side.
One friend suggested getting a cross on each wrist, one upside down, one the right way up... double the pain and I think it'd look a bit silly.

What tattoos have you got?

could be the result of stress / lack of sleep

could be audio memories triiggered by something

could be an early sign of a mental health problem - but i would not worry about this unless it becomes recurring - in which case you should visit your gp - auditory hallucinations tend to be vocal in nature you see - so as i say this would not seem too likely

Hmmm... thanks for the concern, Room.

It could be any/all of those [eeek!], but I can't see it myself.
I'm not a stressful person, in fact everybody says the opposite.
I get enough sleep as I need, but probably not enough.
This hasn't been a recurring thing before, it's only happened now.
Emotionally, I'm secure. Mentally, no problems I know of and no reason to believe there is a problem.

I'm not the sort of person who thinks any slightly unusual thing is some sort of message from God,
but for all this to happen...
But the thing is, it doesn't actually mean anything to me, though, so I have no idea what it could be about, if indeed it is a message.

well your belief that it is from god fits your belief system/faith & that is why it makes sense to you

hope it becomes clearer and stays manageable for you > these kind of experiences challenge our everyday understanding of meaning

when i was younger i used to go to bed in the day sometimes tired / headache.... and the sound of the birds outside my window would become louder and louder and i would drift off into a shallow sleep and then in my head there was a huge BANG noise and my head was clear - the overload had been cleared out the system

that happened when i was 17-21 years old

you could have the cross on its side, so the top is toward your thumb. so then its rairly upsidedown.

Zander-
I've had similiar experiances hearing strange noises that seemingly don't exsist. I wouldn't let it bother you. I've had wierder things than that happen. The way I see it is, we only use around 8-10% of our brain or something right? so maybe sometimes the other 90% likes to play. You see I think we really do use almost our full brain potential, we are just unaware of it's activities.
As for the cross on your arm, which ever way you want it will be right side up, as long as you ment it to be right side up, in my opinion.
