"Guerrilla graffiti" artist Banksy has taken aim at the cult of empty celebrity and its current poster child, Paris Hilton.
The secretive artist has smuggled 500 doctored copies of Paris Hilton's debut album into music stores throughout the UK, where they have sold without the shops' knowledge.
In place of Ms Hilton's bubble-gum pop songs, the CDs feature Banksy's own rudimentary compositions. On the cover of the doctored CD, Ms Hilton's dress has been digitally repositioned to reveal her bare breasts; on an inside photo, her head has been replaced with that of her dog.
On the back cover, the original song titles have been replaced with a list of questions: "Why am I famous?", "What have I done?" and "What am I for?"

banksy's just another media whore himself. v/vm did this years ago btw, they sneak old vinyl into record shops with a note on them saying 'this is shoplifter material - put it in your bag and try and walk out of the store'. - original and cooler: link

In my opinion, humanity will have to evolve beyond narcissism and the desire for power -- the drive for attention and recognition is a power grab, just as GWB, Cheney, whoever, try to grab power and prestige to make themselves feel bigger. He just disigenuously shrouds his in counterculture, which is maybe worse, because it tricks a lot of smart people into calling it noble.

V/Vm is like 150% cooler than bansky, but bansky's antics are a much needed and harmless expression of pranks. everyone needs pranks. ask jello biafra.

i think the first part of this statement is incredibly true, the power grab part. but i dont agree with your assessment of banksy, in his cries for attention he makes some nice looking shit. someone like george bush cant seem to figure out how to do that, so he melts the skin of an entire country.
