--> Who here does not play a traditional instrument? I'm just curious on this. I'm taking piano lessons, but besides that I don't really play an instrument. I wanna see how many people here manage to produce tunes without traditional musicianship.

me
can't read music either

and proud of it
Recent blogs: jfk, STFU Tokyo 2009, Freeta Sounds

I cant read music at all, and I've never had any sort of training.

no instrument or music reading skillz here either. not proud of it. not ashamed either

i used to play clarinet, but that was only until grade 8. i don't remember a thing about how to do it or how to read music. and i honestly think i would probably make really different stuff if i did know, so i am happy i don't.

i play things. mostly guitar and piano now.
some videos to give motivation regarding how to visualize piano instruction:

good good stuff.

im a master of the skin flute

i can't read music or anything
but i have an acoustic guitar that my dad gave me, i think he found it in a house that burned down
it's really nice touching strings that are vibrating with sound
i can play simple stuff, i remember learning purple haze and thinking i was a badass
instruments are nice to have around, some therapeutic value there

mmmm, i enjoyed that =)

I play guitar a little bit -- took lessons every two weeks for a few years. I just use tabs though, and can't read proper music.

My only regret about not being able to read music is that it makes it hard for 'conventional' musicians to take you seriously.

I didn't use to be able to play any instrument or read any music before either. Now I play the piano.

Reading music can be a great skill to have. Not least because it gives you access to a lot of music theory. There no need for everyone to reinvent the wheel on their own.

never had any "musical" training until recently.. had a few guitar lessions, started trying to teach myself keyboard theory and had a few singing lessions to improve my voice...

before that ive was puddling in electronic music for about 8-9 years..

i actually use quite a bit of acoustic instruments in my recordings, but i wouldnt say i could play any of them.

Had piano lessons at school aged 14/15. Used to be able to read sheet music slowly. Cant anymore through lack of practice.
Played bass in bands from 16 until 21.
Messed with hardware until about 98 then started using pc's
Can play a little keys and just need more practice really.
