--> i made this flash jukebox music player thing for my site ages ago and i'm looking for feedback on it. any thoughts on how it works (or if it works) would be helpful as i want to use it for a new project that going to contain a ton of tracks.

it's here, on the right side of the page:
link

(btw...if you click the tiny buttons to the right of the tape, the image changes. and you can drag the little black crosshair for pan/volume control. all very pointless.)

thanks

that's pretty dope, i gotta give props.

it would be cool if selections started playing automatically though.

the LP style player is noice

nice work, looks and sounds great. I agree with datathinner on the autoplay tho.

it'd be cool if you could put your pointer on the tape flanges and wobble them. yeah right like you want to code that in there.

As a player that gets included in a page with other information on it, there's way too much going on visually - and its massive. I would strip the extraneous stuff, to me that means: pan, image select, image, play mode select.

nice work though.

aw c'mon man, i thought the image select was the coolest part. the CD is a little meh, but the tape and vinyl thang is cool.

theres a user interface theory book called 'don't make me think' which i i think is appropriate here, here's a a bit from it: link

For me the problem with the vinyl /tape/cd simulation is that it looks like its an important functioning part of the interface, through its size and design it's given equal (or even greater) importance to the project and track select area. This makes it harder to figure out how to play a track (harder as in; takes moments longer). This is also compounded by the way that in the project and track select areas, the titles of the items don't look clickable, they look like regular text lists... DONTMAKEMETHINK ;)

cool link cbitz0r, thanks!

that looks awesome, nice site too!

i like the tape deck look.
nice album photoz
cool link cbit. that reminded me a little of this one, which I've always liked: link (it's short, but true I think)

thanks all!

thanks for that link too cbit (only one chapter!?) and quicks. i usually try to keep things simple but the trick of course is knowing what will come off as confusing to others. (ok, ok, that's not entirely true. i added some things for superficially-aesthetic, self-indulgent reasons---but better here than in my music, right? right?!)

per suggestions then, and in the interests of making nobody think i'm going to make it autoplay (really? cause i HATE that feature here), lose the pan/vol matrix, lose the middle buttons, and maybe add a rollover to each item on the list? or a number? or work the phrase 'please click me' into each song title? i don't know.

i'd like to keep the image though. maybe make it appear less important somehow...

i'll rethink it while chanting 'don't make me think' like a mantra.

lol!

(i agree withyou about the autoplay; i don't miss it)

re. making the titles more 'clickable looking' take a look at the em411 radio flash player, by putting the items in boxes it makes them looks more button-y.. i think the boxes could be made more subtle and it'd still work. you could try something like that if you think itd fit.

<rant>please don't do the 'click me' thing! argh! 'i am a link' , 'click here', 'move your mouse over these here words and press the button to interact with this new media'.. ARGH! (i mean to say: 'click me' on an item should be redundant, links/buttons should look like links/buttons)</rant>

Wow, I really love it, and the whole site. I suppose it is a bit big and overbearing, compared to the rest of the content, though.

it took me a second to figure out the flash player, that i had to choose what to play before pressing play.

if you could make the first thing play when ppl press the play button i thnk that would help.

alright, flash your thingy and I'll tell you if it works.
