Hi. This is me. Oh boy, I never know how to write an acceptable first line. Anyway.
I' m teaching art with kids from ages 13 to 15. I would like them to have a taste of computerbased drawing.
Currently Im having fun with plugs for illustrator that can create really weird stuff (probb was someone here that mentioned them), but that would be too complex. Couldnt use adobeware anyway, small school here.
I was wondering if anyone has an idea how to get at programs that A) are free B) are easy to use and C) run on peecees. With (B) I mean Id like to work 3 weeks, 2 hours a week on this; so I'd be nice if there were results by the end.
I meant to ask for easy generative audio softs, which I intend to use in an installation they can make themselves, like a haunted forest, with audio triggers in them. But this would be a better primer.
Any and all ideas welcome. If anyone can help me, (knowing about fringe software and understanding the limitations of kids), it's you guys.

this is an art program that I found about 4-5 years ago. Havent used it since so cant testify to how good it is or fitting to your needs but its an avenue of exploration.

i remember having fun with logo at school, i'm not sure if it has been updated, or how generative you can make it.

about generative audio software you may want to check this one: link which was made by kcr... sounds are made by drawing different lines of different colors and size, so you have both the drawing aspect and the musical aspect of generative arts... may be interesting to use it with teenagers (may be? maybe)
edit: for generative music you may also try out these link
i think they run on both peecees and macs (i'm on a mac tho)... you'll have to install max/msp runtime in order to mess with them

I came across these updates to logo a few weeks ago, I can't vouch for them, but I have heard that logo is one of the better teaching environments.

that said, I learned my first graphics producing language in processing. Probably slightly too advanced for the younger kids, but you never know. You may want to give them a taste of it at least.

I was playing with it last night and you can actually compose images and then animate between them by simply creating keyframes then rendering.

Lately I havent been able to get on EM 254 times a day like I used to. You really have to keep up with blogs havent you, before they drop off the page.
Zanf, thanks heaps, really. I can set something up, with those alone. Will have to play around a bit for myself, to choose the one best suited for short sessions. Theboys and girls I teach have little to no experience with these things Im afraid.
Curious to see how it will pan out.
Pierlu, thats something theyre going to enjoy even better, possibly. They can draw and hear the results. Help them develop some synesthesia, eh?
