--> Ever wondered what your house would look like if you could see its sounds? No, probably not. Neither have I. But I did walk around the house the other day tapping stuff. In the MP3 file below, you will hear music made from walls, doors, windows, picture frames, tourist trays, the futon (that's right, the futonophone makes a great base drum) and the bar heater (sounds like a jet plane when you slow it down).

You can download the MP3 file at my main blog site here:

Why you might ask? Because I wondering if you could make music just by tapping stuff. It turns out you can. Actually, the rythms are surprisingly driving. This house rocks, all it needed was an opportunity to express its inner rythm.

really nice song man....surely a piano is cheating!

syna-whu?

thats very cool, wjk.
thanks for sharing.
looking at finally getting a field recording rig, so this is encouragement in that way.... =)

also, are you sharing the mp3 file with random sounds alone?
thanks....

Thanks for the comments. This is my first posting here, and I am still trying to sort out how it all works. I used a IRiver MP3 player and a NT3 mike. A very compact field recording set up I just love the way you can make music out of almost anything... To answer your comments

Technically the piano isn't cheating, it was in my house and I tapped on it - ok you got me.
mlbot, that was a funny comment.
lunatinker - not sure what you meant by your last comment, did you mean, will I share the raw sounds?

itsd cool, the piano reminds me of the recording atmosphere on a Dave Brubeck " trio" album...old jazzy stuff.

How many different recordings did you use?

Risso - what did you mean 'how many different recordings'? There were 15 different tracks, each running a sample, mostly samples of tapping the house, but also samples of piano.
