Apparently there are no upgrades for longtime logic users, just thouse that have bought after August 2007! And it's 500 smackers!

Damn them to hell.

Scan: The old screensets function is in there, still, so you can dissociate the mixer from the arrange window as well as do all the hotkey screen assignment you might be used to. It's just not the default behavior anymore.

Logic's plugins are pretty fly - I've been using ES2 and Sculpture a lot of late. And Space Designer is just sick. Delay designer looks particualrly cool as part of the new package. It also looks like they FINALLY improved the compressor quality. Gutiar Amp pro is still faintly crappy but it's better than nothing.

There's some cool little stuff in there - swipe comping, the low-latency mode (temporarily disables all the high-latency plugs so you can record), easier ways to setup multi-output softsynths...

Also, the implementation of surround mixing makes me want to go back and remix my last album in 5.1.
my copy comes today before 3! stoked
<--jealous
have it now!
delay designer is amazing.. mini eventide for sure.

makign drum and bass as i type!
is editing audio as natural as it is in ableton live? not so much the warping which i don't care too much about.. moreso slicing and dicing.
i dunno what you mean, slicing and dicing.. i never had a problem doing what i do in Live as i did in Logic 5 or 6 or 7 or 8.
i probably do not slice adn dice as you do
editing audio is natural in ableton? news to me
stutter edits. ctrl+d in live is a godsend. shortcut commands for changing quantize resolution is nice. only thing i am missing in ableton is shortcut commands for pitch + - and amplitude + - per slice.

what do you like to edit audio with, astroid?
old protools is what i use for stutters usually.

live is wonderful, especially the freeze command, the timestretching, all that stuff is great. it's just the crossfades. it's fudgy in other ways, too, some of the time-stretching algos or something (and it's live for sure, i use only the native plugs) tend to make weird pops-when i look at it in protools, it's like the waveform translates down -8db for 10 samples and then rights itsself. that's stuff that i have to fix later.
Hmm - I'm thinking of upgrading my G4 PB to a new mac (iMac) and getting logic.

I've always been a cubase user, but I think now may be the time to change. The only thing I wanna check is this - I found with L7 that (and I know this isn't an dal explanation) midi and audio went 'out of time' when I repeated sections ie. I could never get the start and end of a midi/audio section to marry up perfectly with the beat/quantize. This was never a problem in Cubase, but using logic it would drive me up the wall.

Is this still an issue (or is there/has there always been a workaround?)

The other thing is, should I get the full version or just express? The price difference is pretty big (£200), and seeing as I'll be bying a new computer (and a new interface and mic), if I can limit costs I will.

ps. I don't need soundtrack or mainstage at the moment, but I might need a performance solution like mainstage later (but just for playing synth sounds, not for anything else)

advise pls!
ok, Logic Studio is AWESOME!!! But I just discovered one really really big flaw that everyone who does video editing should know... If you intend to install Final Cut Studio on the same computer with Logic Studio, make sure to install that first, because you cannot install FCS after installing Logic Studio! It literally won't let you do it! Some files in the Logic Studio appear to the installer as a newer version of Final Cut Pro so won't let you install FCP Studio.
