I am not really interested in yamaha, roland, akai stuff etc . . .

can anyone tell me about experiences with:

the future retro mobius
the spectral audio cyclus 3
the mfb step 64

anyother hardware sequencer i might not be aware of that is of a reasonable price.

it really depends on what you want to do with it. are you doing just midi or are you using cv/gate? do you need a din sync out?

the mobius is great, especially in modular world. it has cv/gate, trigger, clock, and clock reset outputs as well as a din sync out. you can program glide and manually adjust the portamento amount as well as turn it on and off with just a button. the sequencer is really easy to use but is just 1 track. you really ge the most out of this if you aren't using it as just a midi sequencer

i've never used to eh cyclus but i was really close to getting one once. being able to have patterns with different track lengths/loop points opens up worlds you don't normally think of when you are using a standard step sequencer. it's only midi though - if they had a cv/gate version i woulda picked it up in a heartbeat. i think this is one of the most unique new step sequencers out right now aside from that crazy expensive schrittmacher sequencer.

never used or even looked into the mfb so i won't comment on it.

damn, that cyclus looks hot. not nearly as expensive as I expected, either.

i don't recommend the dopefer. its not exactly packed w/features and the OS still has some issues. read some forums on it and you'll find complaints from many owners over the years.

elektron monomachine is a great midi sequencer plus you get a killer synth too. easily the most intuitive midi sequencer around really.

yeah good point w/ the monomachine. I'm trying to muster up the self-discipline to save up for one, or just sell a bunch of other stuff I don't use.
slightly OT but any word on the user waveforms?

the future retro mobius is great

yes you notice almost all the options of sequencers i mentioned were in the $300 - 500 range. The reason for this is that if i went into anymore expensive territory i might as well get a monomachine which i still might do.

yeah the MM is looking pretty tasty.
can the monomachine send chords to its midi out or is it just monophonic single notes?

i mean, using a single track ...

I wanna know too but since afaik there's separate, additional, MIDI-only tracks, my guess is yes.

also I'd like to hear from someone who's used both the Cyclus and the Monomachine as those seem like the most attractive options to me.

yeah, but all the notes in each chord must have the same length, and (I think) start at the same time...kinda weird, but people seem to user and dig the midi seq... i used it once, and my keyboard shredding came out a bit off because of the note length thing...

the elektron sequencers are f'ing killer for midi sequencing. PC for each step? internal LFOs routable to the midi out? i used it to sequence an old roland sound canvas it sounded amazing.

i still think that elektron has the best hardware sequencer available hands down. i just personally really don't like the sound of their sound generators and can't afford to drop $1100 for a just sequencer.

the only thing i didn't like about the elektron sequencer is that all the track lengths of each track in a pattern have to be the same length (at least that's how it was in the OS when I used them ~3 years ago, maybe this has changed?)
