Does anyone here have experience using the RM1x and RS7000 from Yamaha?
I'm interested in these as sequencers...don't care about the internal sounds. I'm wondering if there's any big difference between the sequencers on the RM1x and the RS7000. If I go the cheaper route and grab a RM1x, will I be missing any great sequencer features from the RS7000?

The realtime loop remix on the RS7000 also works with plain old MIDI data, which totally rocks. I've been having a blast making little basslines sequencing an MS-10 or whatever and then making a bunch of little loop remix variants of the same sequence. It's great because you can save each variant to a different phrase and then dig them up later.
I'm only 2 weeks into this machine now but I know I'll have it forever. It's a crazy good hardware sequencer. Hot damn.
I have a question - do the A5000 and the RS7000 share the same effects engine? The reverbs on the RS are indeed nasty, but some of them are so bad they're good. The gated verb algorithm (which is more like "grainy smear") in the vari-effect block does some magical things to kick drum samples from stuff like the 707, Linn, etc. Give it a dull "bup" and it'll spit out a lively "BOOOoosh".

Ah yes, the tail on that percussive snappy sound sounds like the RS verb to me. Cool little track license. I like it.

Can anyone recommend a VST that is similar to the RM1x's MIDI Delay??? I loved setting the repeat to the 600 mark while pitching each repetition upward by 3 or so steps... I created some nice arpeggiated elements this way. I even used the harmony feature on top of this to create some huge fields of sonic motion...
The later RS7000 didn't have the ability to dial in the repeat time with as much detail as the RM1x - one of the big reasons I finally let the RS go.
I found this thread via Google, and am glad to know there are people out there still rocking the RM1x and RS7000.
I've owned both, and wish I still did...

The RS7000 would be worth it just for the "real time loop remix" alone... Live midi; swing, gate, delays, effects, a sampling engine, 3 modes of sequencing (step, grid, and realtime), plus a 4th that is more like an old school tracker, makes it my most invaluable piece of gear. It's more rock solid then any computer I've ever used (never crashes, which makes it a reliable live commidity)... Althought I still use a computer for softsynths, large multi sample libraries and large recorded wav files...
If you are looking for something to use for a live enviornment as a master controller, or something to spice up your current studio, or a rock solid hardware sequencer with tons of realtime features, the RS7000 comes equiped.
