-my external hard drive got the click of death and refuses to show up when plugged in
-my laptops hard drive corrupted 1/2 of its files, including a couple final projects for classes, one of which was due about 3 minutes ago. laptop wont turn on and i'm out of reactivations for my student copy of windows

hey just to let you know, if you're external hard drive is fuking up.. you should try taking it out of the enclosure and putting in either a tower computer, or buying an enclosure. My gf's external hard drive fukd up the other day and she thought she had lost every piece of work she'd ever done.. but luckily she had a badass bf who was smart enough to take the hd out and put it in a friends computer.. the drive was fine but the enclosure was junk.
btw it was a WD 'my book' which apparantly about 1/2 of which the enclosures fuck up.. but the drives are made well.

This happened to a friend of mine. All his troubles ended when he stopped looking at a certain type of internet website . . .

Sounds like you have that thing where you fuse out electronic gear due to static.
Stop running around on the carpet in nylon socks ;)

I thought I HAD IT BAD because my hitachi hdd died after only 4 years, but your luck is complete shit. Sorry.
I ordered an enclosure ($7.00 shipped) and an wd scorpio, hopefully I can salvage some data from the hitachi.
I should have guessed that 2.5" drives die when you leave them on for 30 day cycles with a 12 hour break, torrents i.e.
At the same time I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it didn't overheat and damage my boards ata or something like that.
I re flashed the bios with help from Jon W. and got it booting from the dyne:bolic cd, so I'm feeling better.
I wonder why it wouldn't boot dyne:bolic before I re flashed the bios??
When I get it going again I'm just going to stick to creative usages and get a 'beater' for the net.
You got a good forum at least, peeps here are helpfull.
good luck
my advice
find out the interface of your hd first, mine is ide/ata, newer ones are sata.

yeah i think the 24 hour a day torrents are what did it in, and the beater for the internet idea is definately a good one
