autechre needs to put out a cd of their current and 2005's live sets coz that shit fucking rules... i'm reallyreally glad they turn off all the lights when they play, coz it forces you to close your eyes and listen. and shit if there's a lot of shit to listen too...

i saw them in cologne and hamburg it was a little different each time, depending on the crowd.
they were great but it lacked some momentum of surprise, imho.
check out the speciel edition of quaristice.
could you see what equipment they used ?
a machinedrum is obvious, but what else ?

I just saw them in Portland. It was too loud and all the tracks were basically layers and layers of percussion that switched between 100 and 200 bpm. Sounded like machinedrum with post-processing. I may have been able to appreciate the complexity more had it not been so farking loud.
DJ Rob Hall did three sets and the second was amazing. Massonix(Graham Massey of 808 state) opened and he had a Mac crash and played his clarinet way off key. That said, his show was the only music with any real melody to speak of. Why doesn't good electronic music have melody anymore!?!

i don't know, melody aside, and as much as i love 808state, i wish someone else had opened for ae.
rob hall delivers every fucking time, so even is someone is disappointed by ae, one can rest assure that rob hall will rub your tummy in gentle ways and make u feel better :P
saturday's show was pretty loud, but i could still make up what was going on.

earplugs people. loud is not going away.. how else to feel the subs? can't fit all those heads in a small venue with listen-able sound either..

ah, as mentioned elsewhere, this set was a lot more straightforward than the last time i heard them, for confield.. melody no, but sparseness at times, danceable structures (other than the 'idm bob' ie bob your head to whatever base tempo you discern =D ) and some tasty chords occasionally. i missed all that last time..

check out some of arovane's live sets for some more melodic content.. when he played here (pdx) in 2005 he threw some some very lovely tracks. i wish uwe wasn't on some kind of music hiatus, his stuff is really a perfect combo of crunchy and smiley.

couldn't see any of ae's gear.. oh well.

loud is the new quiet, fyi.

and also: ftw (whatever that means)

yeah me neither. but it was so dark i didn't even bothered looking. i thought i heard a machinedrum and/or a monomachine, but whatever.
i wish Iron Maiden had opened for AE, not Massonix, LOL

tomorrow!!!!!!!!
Best electronic show I've seen in a while! I like the darkness and BEATS! Yes, lots of beats. I did Rob Hall set at the end was SICK!

I'm ditching the Seattle show tonight cos I don't feel like driving 4 and a half hours, plus paying gas and car rental. that drives the price of my tickets from $30 to about $200...at least I have (empty) souvenirs. I guess I could still make it if I was desperate but nah. too bad cos I know it's gonna be a good show. :P
yeah Rob Hall rocked last time. his sets for download have gotten even better...I don't see how he could do any wrong at this point.

I've got tickets for chicago but don't know if I'll actually make it up there...

Aaaah they've hit the U.S..... I'd make the effort if you get the chance. They annhiliated Shoreditch (London) Last month. Rob Hall was kickass also. Damn I wish I could do it all again!

melody shmelody. they don't make it obvious but there's melody in there.

i liked the portland show a lot. i think there was an MD and MnM but couldn't see much else. ear plugs mandatory. glad i had my hearos. only $12

link

thanks for the link ignatius. I'm def. ordering them before the show next week.
