About to purchase a dedicated live & studio rig, running live & cubase. Wondering whether to format and install Win XP or not.

realistically, we can't run XP forever. Are there any advantages to keeping vista?

I've downgraded from vista now...my laptop must be 4 times faster! It's pretty but it's not worth it!

vista made my computer explode, killed my cat and burned down my house.

The only thing I like about vista is the look and the resume option for when your laptop battery dies

The problem Vista 64 has is the stupidity of many users who don't both to check if Vista 64 is compatible with their beloved hardware and software. My advice is that if Vista is not compatible with your old resources and you still want to use them, don't install Vista. Duh.

I got a new laptop shortly after Vista was launched. I decided it was time to get a macbook, and it was the best decision I ever made.
I've seen vista at my job and some friends, and it is Horrible, and fills me with the Rage. OSX on the other hand, still feels nice and fresh and friendly.

I have used a whole lot of computers and operating systems (Workbench2, msdos, OS/2, VAX, windows (3.1, 95, 98, 98se, me, 2k, nt, xp, vista, server 2003) various unix (linux slackware, debian, redhat, ubuntu), freebsd, openbsd, AIX), and some symbian smartphones. They have their uses, but for my 'home' computer, where I surf, blog, organise photos and chat and make music, _nothing_ comes even close to OSX. It is my Friend! Until I started using it I didnt know that operating systems could be NICE as well as functional. Vista isn't even that. OSX has a powerful unix when you want it, a GUI to compete with win2k, an interesting scripting system that reminds of rexx, and stil manages to be simple and powerful. I do not hesitate to recommend it.

waste....of....time

Stick with XP till vista sorts itself out. To be honest you can stick with XP for a long time I know people still running windows 2000

Fuck Vista.

Switch to Linux :-)

Or buy a Mac.

Wow there's some serious hatin' towards vista. I've been using for a few weeks and apart from a couple of issues it's been fine. I was thinking about switching back to XP but overall i'm happy with the OS. They've obviously fixed a lot of issues with SP1 so i haven't experienced any of the problems i've read about online. Check out this article on CDM about vista.

It's been a lot more stable for me than XP ever was so i'm sticking with it. if your wondering whether to switch to it make sure all your drivers are supported before you do.

It's silly how much FUD there is about Vista. Most of these people haven't actually used it and are just going based on what they heard from their cousin's brother's dog's friend.

As far as Windows goes, it's perfectly fine. I think part of the issue is people trying to use it on really old hardware. I don't see a reason to upgrade unless you're building a new machine (like I did) or are buying a new one. If XP or Win 2000 (what I was using, as I didn't like XP) works for you, then don't worry about upgrading.

But all this "Vista is the worst OS ever OMG OMG IT SUX0RZ!!!" is just FUD, IMO. It works fine for me (64-bit Home Premium) with fewer issues than any previous version of Windows I've used. That said, Linux is better. If there were more games and music programs for Linux, I'd never touch any MS OS.
