Basically should I try a reformat???

if you don't care for your data you can try to format. but i won't bring back your data.
however i wouldn't trust this HD anymore.

I'm downloading this random ntfs raw recovery utility. If that doesn't work I'll try the format, I can just try another os on there or something ,on there, or creativly destroy it.

you're running xp right?
sometimes my drives have appeared in my computer as not formatted when they actually are... I'd take it out of the enclosure and plug it into teh IDE cable again (assuming it's IDE) then boot to command line not windows.
If you can dir around in the disk your data should be fine.

Just remember M$ Operating Systems LIE from time to time...I always look for a workaround.

also let me know what ntfs recovery app you're downloading. I'm having a similar prob. w/ one of my drives only win refuses to recognize 100gb of the 250gb drive...even the installer doesnt recognize it...

I've tried the IDE on this asus board the pins didn't wanna line up, maybe EIDE

I haven't been successful scanning it yet, stuck on bad sectors.

I might give the 9 Iron on a par 1.
