My girlfriend's mac needs an antivirus program.
It looks like there a re a few out there.
What's your preferred one?
Any I should avoid?

I use AVG on my PC and it seems pretty good. Basically looking for the Mac equivalent...

Cheers!

I have this: ClamXav link

have you ever discovered a virus on your mac, Zanf? Do you really think virus protection is necessary?

Fight fight!

No but I was hoping it would clear up my herpes. ;)

I use it because I swap lots of files between XP, Linux and OSX so I just like to keep on top of it. If Apple increases its share of the market, it will be inevitable that virii will appear for macs.

are there really that many people out there who cant understand TWO mouse buttons?

Typical windows user - still living in 1998 lol

This isnt a real argument is it? :P

and yeah I agree,
I never used virus protection when i was on PC, and I never use it now on mac.

I have seen it on tv, macs dont get viruses! wake up windows users!...why dont you go make a spreadsheet or something while I make a photo album and be ultimately more creative than you.

Ask yourself this: why don't Mac users run anti-virus software? Why don't UNIX users run anti-virus software? Because they don't need to. They don't run as administrators. Sadly, the cost of running as non-admin is severe on Windows, because MS made some early, boneheaded architectural decisions and perpetuated them over a decade. But the benefit is substantial. There's almost nothing a virus, malware, or trojan can do to a user who isn't running as an administrator.

re: no antivirus : statistic for tadaiy! 1 in a thousand pages has a virus
and Thanks to Apple quicktime, MAC users and the rest of us had a fun RTSP protocol malware journey for a while.
Sun seems to be the lowest target on the totem pole. all others are subject to the games of "break stuff" people. =)
who loves zombies! link not awesome: 264,133 zombies detected/day and the hordes moan!

actually. sorry. this paper is more fun: link in "flash paper" SWF //

I'm almost tempted to check out that program you recommended, Zanf, except it has a big fat warning about backing up all the contents of your hard drive as it might "move things around" or something like that. Makes me shake. I think for now at least I will leave well enough alone.
