So, I'm trying to plan a cross country move, and I've got about 130 inches of LPs to move. Anybody got any experience doing this sort of thing? Can anybody recommend a decent, cheap container, or have any good advice?

go with the smaller boxes you get from uhual.. perfect size.. fits about 90 or so records and weigh about 45lbs ful..

milkcrates can work if you can get the right size but ones you can steal are to small to fit records..

you're better off with the boxes though.. they're strudy and most importantly stackable.

uhaul makes boxes that work and you can also get milk crate type things at staples though they are a little bigger than milk crates.

also, are you towing a car out behind a moving truck? i put my records in my car which was on a trailer towed by the truck which i drove.

i once moved two uhauls worth of vinyl. 20,000lbs i think.

he had these old medical supply containers.. thick plastic bins, latched shut.. totally fit records perfectly!

No, the records will be placed into a storage container which will be loaded onto a flatbed and driven across the country. So luckily, I won't be driving a moving truck! Just me and my wife driving our cars, following each other. Talking on walkie talkies and listening to a GPS drone on and on for DAYS ON END.
Believe it or not, ABF quoted me a better cost to move 2 containers across the country than budget or uhaul quoted me to drive the truck myself.

shipping containers are the way to go then! i think you'll be safe w/boxes then. just make sure you don't stack too much on them or put them in last or something.

the truck rental places aren't cheap. a mid sized truck and trailer on a cross country move can easily be close to a few grand.

it won't take you long to drive from nashville. once you get into the middle of the country the speed limit goes up to 75-80 and its pretty easy to drive 12+ hours a day once you get into it. just don't try to have some kind of phone sex using the walkie talkies..

Yeah once we get to about arkansas i'm putting the tom petty on and praying for a time warp. I might even hit cruise control. and rub my eyes. der der der der da duh dum.

seriously just go to uhaul or anyplace that sells boxes and buy some of the smaller sized ones.. they will fit the records perfectly and allow them to be stacked which will make packing the shipping crate that much easier.. i just bought and moved into a house recently and that's how i moved my 900+ record collection..

how much are those boxes each?

I would never trust someone from a container company to be gentle with my vinyl babies.
if you do, think about the bottom of the box as well
