I have been talking to Hans-Cristoph Steiner, one of the big contributors to the Pure Data community and the main "collector" for the Pd-extended releases, and he expressed interest in doing a workshop for Pd in the SF Bay Area. I'm looking to see if anyone here would be interested in attending. I currently don't have any details, but I'm polling to see if there is enough interest to warrant him coming out here.
For those who don't know, Pd, aka Pure Data http://www.puredata.org/, is a real-time graphical programming environment for audio, video, and graphical processing. It is the third major branch of the family of patcher programming languages known as Max (Max/FTS, ISPW Max, Max/MSP, jMax, etc.) originally developed by Miller Puckette and company at IRCAM. The core of Pd is written and maintained by Miller Puckette and includes the work of many developers, making the whole package very much a community effort.
A key point is it is free-as-in-liberty-AND-beer. I have been working with it for a little while and it is definitely a great tool.
