Up until recently i have only ever softsynths that come in packages with sequencers: pretty much all the logic audio synths and the abletons operator.

My biggest problem with softsynths is that a lot of there layouts are awful. A good example of this is the logic ES2 i know it is capable of some nice sounds but the layout of the parameters is awful. Ableton's operator is a lot clearer but it is still suffers from a sort of squashed interface. In anycase they are all good synths but they do not cut the mustard comparitvely. For example the ultrabeat does not stand up on ease of use compared to a machinedrum.

Anyway i desperately want to find one softsynth that i can apply myself to for the forseeable future (As in i only want to buy one).

So i had a play with future audio workshops new circle synth because of the emphasis on flow of sound design. Whilst, i am tempted i am put off by the price, but i always have been with softsynths hence why i only want to buy one. Before i jump in i wanted to get your impressions on circle as well as alternatives like zebra 2 and massive and anything else that you feel is on par or better.

Any thoughts would be apreciated as there are not many solid reviews of these synths on the net.

These are all good synths. I really dig Albino though, it's easy to program great sounds which i think is really important in a synth and it's one of the main factors for me when buying looking for a synth. It's obviously got a massive range as it ships with 2100 factory presets. It's a well designed synth capable of producing great sound and is comparable to hw imo. Check out the demo

Choosing and staying with something - to actually get to know it well - seems the hard part in the softsynth world, theres sooo many options and news everyday.
But yea, Zebra is fantastic

hmmm ... I'm a phanboy for all of the Ableton synths. Mosts VST's haven't captured my attention in enough of a way to sway me from the ableton synths, except for the d16 VST's.

Now, if someone made a VST emulation of the FS1R ... I would get that in a heartbeat!

get cracking in reaktor andrew? I'd like to play with that...
Recent blogs: The real Arturia Jupiter 8V

I got a bunch of instruments and my favorites (not in any special order) right now are...

Atmosphere (ROMpler)
Zebra 2
Gladiator (and Firebird)
Reason 4 (ReWire app)
Absynth 4
FM8
Reaktor 5
Kontakt 3

Taylor Deupree put me onto Tassman 4 a couple weeks ago and to perfectly honest I've hardly booted up reaktor since! It's a unsung hero of modular synthesis if you ask me...It's alot easier to knock up a useable sound!

Despite it's age it's still a sterling synth!

FabFilter One is a pretty sweet little monosynth. simple, and it sounds good.

No one believed me when I said that, dan.

Hopefully they'll believe you.

To me, it sounds nearly as good as my juno.
Oh shit! I didn't see that you had put it out there Ted...

well, fuck 'em... FabFilter One roacks ya bastards!

Nah, I mentioned it last time someone asked for a good softsynth

But I guess people have no idea.

KarmaFX has a great sound.... link

tassman

sounds amazing. kinda like fabfilter1, but more flexible and expesive

"expesive"? Do you mean "expressive" "expensive"?

If interface is your concern, then you cant go past the Korg MS20 emulation with the MS20i usb controller going for 300 US I believe right now I just got one recently and for the first time i'm using the plugin like an instrument and getting sounds out of it I that I never did when just using it as a plug in tweaking with a mouse ect provided you're into the character of the synth etc, great for dub step style basses and dirty bizaro stuff so far for me.

@celibacyclub

I'm addicted to Tassman! I love it!
