I couldn't stand this when it came out... my platonic lady friends wouldnt' stop listening to it.

Much more into this that year... lyrics actually mean something to me.. and much more cutting edge trend wise.

Beck is good .. but I just had my interests at the time... With Odelay I was still way into Rephlex and Sonic Groove records. With Mutations I was into Belle & Sebastion, Yo La Tengo... music that just means more to me.. by the time I was over being 19 and wanted to chill out ... I was just much more into music that was naturally eccentric. Damn my brain!

Actually, william burroughs went through the first tier of scientology and then wrote a scathing critique of it. It was really embarrassing for them at the time.

i wouldnt exactly call it "scathing". through criticism it definitely is.

he does tout it as being potentially more powerful than freudian analysis.

As to my personal evaluation, after six months of study: I would not be writing this article unless I was convinced that Scientology is worth serious consideration. I feel that I have benefited greatly from Scientology processing. In an earlier article in Mayfair I said that Scientology can do more in ten hours than psychoanalysis can do in ten years. For what this is worth I still think so.
