Looking to buy my first (!) microphone. I want something simple under $100.
Any suggestions?

do you have an interface/preamp for your computer already? if not, i hear usb mics are a good cost effective solution.

sterling audio st55 is really good for the price, probably over 100 though, even second hand. radioshack mics are really cheap and simple, they terminate to a regular 1/4" jack. I think they actually sound good.

I've got a bargin of a mic. The T Bone SC300! I think it sounds quite good but all I use it for is sampling...T bone are known to be quite for the price though!

sm57, sennheiser e835

my little brother has the Samson C01U, and It sounds pretty great.

I however have the rhode nt1a, and I like it alot!

damn it. try that one link

+1 SM57. It will last forever.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I will check these out and post when I make a choice.

At that price point - you really can't beat a shure sm57... add my vote to the people above. I've had several over the years.

I have an SM57 and honestly I wish I'd bought a condenser mic instead.

apparently they use a few radio shacks in daptone studios.

i use a cheap m-audio pulsar. not bad, esp with a pre-amp. get a good cable for your mic too.

what do you want to record?
