dunno how this doesn't destroy your lcd..but..my initial thought is that it's awesome. If you just needed knobs, and they functioned like typical midi controllers, your whole controller for gigs could fit in a pocket.
Handful of knobs, is what I'm saying.

i think technically it looks really interesting.
from a practical standpoint i don't know. it sticks to a philosophy of controlling things, that somehow feels outdated.
think lemur or monome – that does look like a controller-method, that opens up new worlds.

hm, i guess its cool to build an old laptop into a 'standalone synth' or something, but as a controller for a DAW i can't see this being useful really.

I'm with Roshi. That's really weird. I think it is a bad move, personally. I don't think it could be particularly usefully, and it seems wasteful to me to have a computer that could function as a DAW dedicated to a single task.

Technically interesting, but a dumb idea. It's taking up screen space with a knob. Why not, I dunno, get a MIDI controller with knobs instead of cluttering up your screen? Having a screen with pictures of knobs with real knobs stuck to them is the most bass-ackwards thing I've seen in a while.
